THERE IS NO RSF IN SOMALIA: THE LETHAL DANGER OF STATE DISINFORMATION
Recently, several Somali government officials—most notably the Minister of Defence—have started pushing the phrase "RSF Somalia wing" across social media.
Let's set the record straight: There is no such thing as "RSF Somalia." This is a completely manufactured narrative, and spreading it is a calculated act of disinformation with dangerous real-world consequences.
Why This Disinformation Is a Dangerous?
A. Worse than fake news: Disinformation does not just lie; it deliberately rewrites reality to manipulate public fear and mask political failures.
B. A deliberate national security threat: When a sitting Minister of Defence weaponizes false narratives, it crosses from political spin into a deliberate crime against public safety.
C. A green light for extrajudicial violence: This rhetoric creates a highly dangerous pretext. By branding domestic actors with this tag, the state gives security forces a convenient label to target, kill, and dismiss citizens under a fabricated excuse.
Officials trusted with national security must not use their platforms to seed chaos. Somalia does not have an RSF wing, and manufacturing one puts every citizen's life at risk.
