I really like Rashford as a person and was a big fan of him when he broke through at United. The issue now is, even if we sign him permanently, the left wing still doesn’t feel fully solved. Better to look for another option.
Barcelona's interest in retaining Marcus Rashford after his loan spell ends this summer has cooled.
The Champions League quarter-final tie against Atletico Madrid did him no favours, with the England forward poor in front of goal in the first leg and then putting in an erratic performance after coming off the bench at the Metropolitano.
Club sources believe he had a golden chance to make his mark this month following Raphinha’s latest hamstring injury, and that he did not fully take it.
There is also the question of cost for Barca — they have a €30million (£26.1m; $35.3m) buy option for the 28-year-old, but as things stand they don’t intend to trigger it.

Too many times Barça’s midfield has been hit by injuries. We need someone like Bernardo Silva. Free agent, experienced, Guardiola’s captain, UCL winner, can play everywhere, rarely injured and looking for a new challenge. Feels like a no-brainer if the finances allow.
The XI makes sense. Rashford is a double-edged sword, can produce a moment out of nowhere but can also hurt you defensively. In such games he feels more like a 70’ option when you have little to lose.
HT 1-2. Very good first half. We knew we would concede, but Barça keep pushing through the middle despite Atlético crowding that area. It all comes down to our quality in tight spaces.

Last year, Lamine Yamal spoke about how we felt defeated after drawing at home to Inter. He wanted that mentality to change.
Now we go into a second leg 0-2 down, and still we believe.
Some players change games. Others change mentalities. He’s both.

Ferran starts ahead of Lewandowski mainly for his runs in behind. If Atlético press high from the start, his connection with Yamal could be key. Hopefully he brought his shooting boots tonight.

Even when we play Atleti and they’re 2-0 up at halftime, we still believe we can come back. So why feel defeated when we still have 90 minutes, maybe more, ahead of us? I fully believe we can do it today. 💙❤️
Gavi is such a complete player. Always up for duels, yet extremely secure on the ball. Like Fermín, he looks aggressive but is also technically elite. With him, Pedri, Frenkie and Bernal, Barça have the profiles to sustain a double pivot or a 4-3-3 for years.
When you’re 2-0 down, one goal brings everything back to life. Look at Espanyol, one goal and they probably feel they can get something from this game. If Barça score first against Atleti we will pull off a remontada. We are the better team.

Perfect first half. Two goals up without even getting out of second gear. Espanyol have been chasing shadows. Second half, time to rest key players ahead of our UCL game.
Thought we’d rest Lamine and Pedri, but Flick wants to keep them in rhythm. He did say he prefers Yamal starting and then adjust when he takes him off. Still feel like Roony deserves more minutes.
On the bright side, Gavi is fit enough to start again! The squad is almost fully back. La Liga is nearly wrapped up, but if we can’t complete the remontada against Atlético, it will feel like a wasted moment with everyone finally available.
