The tweet is right, and more people need to hear it plainly.
The wellness industrial complex has packaged an impossible life and sold it as a "routine."
10,000 steps. Eight hours. Home-cooked meals. Spotless apartment. Present parent. Thriving career. Rich inner life.
That is not a day. That is five people's days stitched together and called one.
The math simply does not work.
A day has 24 hours. Sleep takes 8. Work takes 8 to 10. Commuting, cooking, cleaning, parenting, showering... you are already out of hours before a single hobby enters the picture.
So what actually happens when you chase the full list?
You do all of it badly.
The sleep gets cut. The meals become guilt. The hobby sits untouched for six weeks. And you wake up feeling like a failure at a life that was never actually possible.
The higher skill is not optimization.
It is sequencing. Knowing which season of life you are in and letting that season set your priorities.
There are years you run hard on career and the apartment stays messy. Years you pour into your kids and the fitness slips. Years you finally sleep and rebuild.
None of that is failure.
That is someone who understands the actual terms and conditions of being human.
Pick your top three. Do those well. Let the rest breathe.
From this place to the main Agric bustop, government has failed totally. Market people have taken over the road too. Also they have been fixing that road since Ambode’s era and till today, they haven't completed it. If it were Ambode, he would have completed it. The streetlights they put are not working, everywhere just looks ungoverned.
First of all, they need to sack the chairman of that local government. Osi len se.
Today is not about your deadbeat dad, and today is not about your baby daddy who abandoned his responsibilities and left everything to you. There are other days to talk about them and drag them all you want.
And today is not about your “strong mother” who single-handedly raised you and your siblings. There are enough days dedicated to celebrating mothers and their sacrifices, you can sing her praises those days and even beyond.
Today is simply about good fathers.
The fathers who showed up.
The fathers who stayed.
The fathers who sacrificed.
The fathers who provided.
The fathers who loved, protected, guided, and remained present in their children’s lives.
Not every father deserves praise, but the good ones certainly do.
So let people who were blessed with great fathers celebrate them in peace without disrupting it.
Happy Father’s Day to every amazing fathers out there.
AN OPEN LETTER TO THE HONOURABLE COMMISSIONER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND WATER RESOURCES, MR. TOKUNBO WAHAB
Dear Mr. Wahab,
I write as a concerned resident of Lagos State regarding the worsening waste management situation across our city.
Today, refuse dumps are becoming a common sight on roadsides, bus stops, junctions, markets, and even residential areas. Many Lagosians are increasingly concerned that waste management efforts are becoming more reactive than proactive, allowing illegal dumping and environmental degradation to flourish.
A major concern is the apparent shortage of effective waste collection services. In many communities, residents rarely see sufficient waste trucks, while informal cart pushers have become the primary means of waste disposal. Unfortunately, there is little assurance that the waste they collect is properly managed, as much of it appears to end up in drains, canals, and unauthorized dumping sites.
This situation is particularly alarming during the rainy season. Blocked drainage channels contribute directly to flooding, causing damage to homes, businesses, roads, and public infrastructure.
I respectfully urge your ministry to:
Increase the number of operational waste collection trucks.
Strengthen enforcement against indiscriminate waste disposal.
Properly regulate informal waste collectors.
Intensify drainage clearing operations across the state
Lagos is Nigeria's commercial capital and should not be overwhelmed by refuse. A cleaner city protects public health, reduces flooding, attracts investment, and improves the quality of life for all residents.
Lagosians are looking not for excuses, but for visible improvements. I hope this letter will encourage urgent action to address this growing environmental challenge.
Yours faithfully,
A Concerned Resident of Lagos State who miss Raji Fashola so much
@tokunbo_wahab@Lawma_gov@jidesanwoolu@funsodoherty@GRVlagos
When are you people stopping the silly political patronage of PSP operators so that MORE professional business minded people can come in? Until you people stop using your party members to clear waste, this nonsense will continue. You're not fooling anyone.
You’re so full of excuses. Can you fucking do your job and stop being defensive?
These are pictures taken this morning. These are houses inside streets, not main roads, yet your LAWMA trucks haven’t been there to clear the waste
Is it until we have an outbreak? @jidesanwoolu
If you are from a poor home, and you start making it, take care of your parents first before anyone. I have one spiritual believe that the more you take care of your parents, the more God blesses you.
The current #NPFL board’s tenure expires on 29 September 2026. There’s no public indication yet of what happens next.
@nff Why not announce the next board early and allow for a proper off-season transition instead of waiting until the last minute?
The problem with Waste management is the PSPs.
They cant be held to account and do whatever they like.
Open waste to more private companies to bid and invest in garbage trucks and see the magic.
On my way to work this morning, I saw a car engulfed in fire from afar. The driver of the car is a black guy. He parked the car on a chevron junction where the road divided into two and he stayed off the road while watching his car burn. He was however on the phone, perhaps maybe he was trying to call 999 (emergency response line). He appeared very calm in the midst of it all. I've driven barely two minutes away from the fire incident spot when I saw a firefighter truck on full speed and with its siren blaring very loudly so other road users can give way. Behind the firefighter truck were two ambulances too, also both running on full speed. The emergency response in this country is really admirable. I remember when I had a road traffic crash in February, it was barely up to 10mins when the crash happened that firefighter truck, ambulances and police all arrived at the scene.
I was discussing the incident with someone when I got to work and I made mention of the fact that the guy was very calm as the fire was burning his car. My Brit colleague asked me rhetorically what would I have done if it was my car burning. He said that is why we have insurance policy — and his insurance company will buy him another car. He emphatically warned me never to try to be a hero if my car should ever catch fire.
This is a working system. And I believe it doesn't take rocket science to replicate this system in my country too. I hope Nigeria also gets it right some day.
No Lagos State Governor can ever be like Fashola again….man was a calm and firm disciplinarian who doesn’t shout.
Someone that forced all okada riders and their passengers to start wearing helmets.
He forced all commercial bus drivers to close their doors, nothing like conductors standing by the door and not sitting down.
There were planting of trees everywhere in Lagos.
The roads were clean and safe
Whenever he gives a directive, it stands !!!
