The NBA mourns the passing of Oscar Schmidt (1958-2026). The Brazilian basketball legend debuted for Brazil at 19 in 1977 and played in every Olympics from 1980 to 1996. Oscar’s the all-time leading scorer in Olympic history with more than 1,000 points and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013. We extend our deepest condolences to the Schmidt family.

Oi gente eu sou a dry e tenho uma condição genética rara!!

eu e meu pai viemos pros EUA pq basicamente era isso ou ir perdendo nossos órgãos aos poucos …

essa doença afeta o sistema digestivo e faz a gnt ter tipo centenas de pólipos com risco praticamente certo de virar câncer, por isso eu já tive q tirar o intestino grosso e meu pai já teve câncer por causa disso

e ela é hereditária, inclusive já tiveram pessoas da minha família que faleceram por causa dessa mesma mutação (minha vó e meu irmão)

só que não para por aí, ela vai piorando com o tempo e começa a afetar outros órgãos também

no brasil eu tive acompanhamento e sou muito grata por tudo que fizeram por mim de verdade, só que a abordagem lá acaba sendo mais agressiva infelizmente

a solução que estavam dando era tirar meu estômago + duodeno + parte do pâncreas, e pro meu pai também

só que eu já tenho desnutrição severa, então tirar mais órgãos digestivos pra mim não é “tratamento”, é tipo acabar com qualquer chance de ter uma vida minimamente normal
por isso eu e meu pai viemos pra cá

aqui na mayo clinic eles falaram algo completamente diferente, eles não querem sair tirando tudo e montaram um plano pra tentar manter meus órgãos

e tipo, só de me falarem que eu não vou precisar tirar meu estômago pelo menos por agora ou daqui a uns anos, isso já mudou tudo pra mim

e outra coisa que me marcou muito é que, se algum dia realmente precisar remover mais órgãos, isso seria MUITO bem conversado antes com a equipe inteira pq eles sabem q cada paciente é um caso q deveria ser visto de forma única e nao protocolada de forma geral

aqui eles tratam muitas pessoas com a mesma condição que eu, e inclusive me explicaram várias coisas sobre a doença que eu nem sabia

isso tudo já me deu uma sensação de cuidado e de qualidade de vida que eu nunca tive antes

nos não estamos aqui por luxo, so estamos tentando ter uma chance de viver :)

e infelizmente isso tudo tem um custo muito alto, então se vc puder ajudar ou até compartilhar já vai nos ajudar muito!! 🤍
