"So the first Gresley Pacific design never proceeded beyond the paper stage. For the sake of Gresley's reputation, this is probably just as well, for the curious combination of Ivatt with Churchward was very unlikely to have achieved the outstanding success" - Cecil J. Allen
@DatCartoonist Truthfully, there's nothing to prove this is 100% what would've happened, but if it weren't for the publishers demanding Chris write more Thomas-centric stories, they likely would've had the chance to be properly developed as characters and also appear in more than 3 books.
It seems I must make a slight amendment to the quoted tweet:
You two also probably got screwed over by the publishers, but I forgot to even consider that because you at least got the chance to speak more than once ππ
@SodorPro It would've been, but I think Pug would've been turned out more interesting because there's no RTR Kitson Pug models out there
It would've been kind of like how people used to convert the OO Bachmann Emily into a normal Stirling Single before Rapido released theirs
Percy, Jinty and Pug would have been such a banger episode
Percy in a more uniquely boastful role?
Jinty and Pug?
A very classic RWS/model series type ending where the main lead gets embarrassed for being a dumbass?
God we were robbed
I don't get why, in recent years, people have started disliking how much fan content there is surrounding them.
It's not often that the brand has such blank slates like these engines, of course people are gonna wanna take a crack at making their own interpretations of them!
However, I DON'T actually regret accidentally leaving it in the final release, because it ended up being really funny seeing some people get weirdly upset over Ethel's bellsound being rap music.
And before anyone asks, yes, that face was always meant to be a part of the final released version of the Ethel model. I thought it was funny.
The bellsound, however... yeah, I'll admit that was genuinely something I forgot to replace for the model's public release, oops!
Sometimes I think about a universe where Chris Awdry didn't get screwed over by the publishers every single step of the way during his tenure as author of the RWS and I silently weep
@killdane1 -letters, the E2 as a potential basis for Thomas was brought up. And since most of these letters were from the 60s and 70s, the earliest Awdry could've made E2 Thomas canon was in the mid-to-late 60s.
@killdane1 Although if we were to get into stuff that wasn't meant to be publicly released, iirc during one of the Awdry Ex private evening livestreams, they read a bunch of letters that Awdry had written, which is why we know about stuff like M&SWJR 2-4-0 Edward, and in one of those-
"You SUCK, and I'm AWESOME and CRIMSON, which is why YOU SUCK and are DUUUUUUUUMB. By the way, did I mention you STINK and I'm going to TAKE OVER YOUR RAILWAY???"
