Kuwaiti crude carrier "Al-Salmi" was directly attacked by Iranian forces while docked at the anchorage area of Dubai Port in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) said early Tuesday.

In a press statement, KPC said that the tanker was fully laden at the time of the incident, which took place at approximately 12:10 am on Tuesday, March 31.

The attack resulted in "damage to the vessel's hull and the outbreak of a fire onboard, with a potential oil spill in the surrounding waters," it stated.

"Emergency response and firefighting teams were immediately mobilized and are currently working to contain and control the situation in close coordination with the relevant authorities," it noted.

KPC further confirmed that no injuries have been reported among the crew. It went to say that a "detailed technical assessment of the damage is underway, and all necessary measures are being taken to safeguard the vessel and mitigate any environmental impact."

Kuwait National Guard shot down five hostile drone in the areas under their responsibility, KNG Spokesman Brig Jadaan Fadhel said early Sunday.

The action is part of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces' efforts to protect national security and safeguard vital sites against any potential threats, he said in a press statement.

The KNG, in collaboration with the police forces and Kuwait Fire Force, maintain the highest levels of preparedness in defending national security and stability, he affirmed.
