Check out this great action from USAS Local 54 at UMD. @President_Pines, stop listening to your anti-union lawyers and bargain with AFSCME 1072 to protect the health and safety of workers AND students if you truly care about em.
The Washington Post just published this article yesterday as well, detailing the fight across multiple campuses in Maryland to protect workers: https://t.co/G4m3uhGHA1
Our union is working to pass legislation (SB-09) this year in the Maryland General Assembly to propose a switch to consolidated bargaining for Higher Education workers. Here's why that's so important:
UMD staff, students, grad students, alumni, faculty, and community members: Support campus staff by sending a letter to your state representative urging them to vote YES on SB9/HB486 HERE: https://t.co/Z9DblOzv6j
Staff deserve a say in issues affecting us!!
@President_Pines why hasn't UMD allowed workers to have a say in the COVID policies that will affect them then? @President_Pines agree to bargain with AFSCME 1072 now!
@President_Pines You must do better to protect the workers on this campus!! Provide them safe working conditions and proper PPE equipment and meet with the union representing them so that they can get the protection they need.
@President_Pines Prioritizing health and well-being on campus is super important! That's why @USAS local 54 is demanding the administration MUST meet with @afscme_1072 to bargain over BASIC health and safety precautions! #workersafetyoverprofit
@President_Pines and @UofMaryland must do better! They make it seem like they care about their community, but turn their back on the workers, faculty, and students time and time again, whether it is is mold in dorms, or NOT providing proper PPE equipment for the frontline workers
@President_Pines Prioritizing health and well-being on campus is super important! That's why @USAS local 54 is demanding the administration MUST meet with @afscme_1072 to bargain over BASIC health and safety precautions! #workersafetyoverprofit
