After a grueling selection process, Thomas Payne was selected to serve in the elite Tier 1 SFOD-D (Delta Force), where he conducted countless missions as an operator.

In 2015, during a hostage rescue raid in Hawija, Iraq, he climbed a burning building under fire to free 75 hostages from ISIS. He earned the Medal of Honor for his actions.

The award was presented by President Trump on September 11, 2020, on the 19th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
