You can say "it's different", but how so? A hammer can build a house, or kill someone. Candy can be a savory treat, or likewise end up killing you if not treated responsibly. This goes for all things, and that's logical, but as soon as guns come up, logic gives way to "feelings".

Blaming guns are akin to blaming cars for accidents as apposed to bad drivers. In the case of "assault rifles", you could compare it to fast cars compared to slower models. Do we need fast cars? They're more dangerous, but I don't see anyone calling that debate.

If guns are responsible for mass murder, how come it's become so prevalent in recent times? You used to be able to mail order fully automatic weapons, without any hastle. Yet, murder was (per capita), miniscule by today's standards.
