For over half a century, ONLF and the Somali people in Ogaden have suffered—just 600 km from the AU headquarters—without their wishes being considered or granted a referendum to determine their own fate. Instead, their homeland was unjustly recognised to Ethiopia in 1981 by OAU, based solely on colonial-era agreements that our people neither consented to nor were party to. This decision has cost hundreds of thousands of lives and continues to destabilise the Horn of Africa.

Despite this, we still hope that one day the AU will embody the true aspirations of Africans: dignity, freedom from fear, poverty, tyranny, and political oppression.
