EThekwini Municipality, together with all stakeholders involved in the voluntary repatriation programme, notes with growing concern the continued influx of foreign nationals arriving at the Durban Drive-In site from other municipalities, neighbouring towns and provinces.
While the voluntary repatriation programme has made significant progress, the continued arrival of new individuals threatens to undermine the operation and places unnecessary pressure on resources that were specifically allocated for individuals already within the eThekwini Municipality area.
The Municipality therefore calls on all municipalities, provincial authorities, organisations and individuals to immediately cease transporting or directing foreign nationals to the Durban Drive-In site.
Such actions compromise the effectiveness of the operation and divert critical humanitarian resources away from those for whom the programme was intended.
The continued influx places severe strain on the site’s infrastructure, including health and sanitation services, security operations, humanitarian assistance, volunteers and private sector sponsors who continue to provide vital support.
Since the commencement of the operation, 12 800 individuals have been assisted, with 10 941 foreign nationals voluntarily repatriated through 136 repatriation buses, supported by 18 deportation buses.
A coordinated intelligence-driven operation in Pretoria North ended with a high-speed chase, the arrest of a suspect, and the recovery of a stolen vehicle. Police believe the operation has disrupted an alleged vehicle theft syndicate, with further investigations continuing and more arrests expected.

Scores of Undocumented Malawian Immigrants Arrested After Being Found Hidden Inside Truck During Massive N3 Roadblock Raid at Mooi River Toll Plaza
A high-impact multi-departmental roadblock along the N3 at the Mooi River Toll Plaza in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands resulted in the arrest of scores of undocumented Malawian immigrants who were discovered hidden inside a commercial cargo truck. The coordinated enforcement operation involved the Department of Transport, the Department of Employment and Labour, and the Department of Home Affairs Immigration Unit.
Law enforcement officials stopped the truck along the busy freight corridor and, during an inspection, found dozens of Malawian nationals concealed inside the vehicle. None of those intercepted were able to produce valid legal transit documentation or entry permits required to be in South Africa. Authorities also arrested several foreign nationals who were working illegally as commercial truck drivers.
The operation further targeted cross-border transport violations, non-compliant freight companies, and individuals operating heavy-duty vehicles without valid South African work permits or the required regulatory licences. The enforcement action formed part of a coordinated effort to strengthen compliance within the commercial transport sector and address irregularities along one of the country's busiest freight routes.
The Department of Home Affairs, together with provincial transport authorities, confirmed that all undocumented individuals intercepted during the operation had been processed into state custody and were being held at temporary processing facilities pending repatriation and deportation. Government officials also warned that trucking companies employing undocumented workers could face prosecution and the impoundment of their assets.
