@MantheyJakob@jschoeley@BMG_Bund I am not sure about the relationship with abortions since the proportion of late abortions and abortions with medical indication per birth is rather constant or increasing since 2010.
@MantheyJakob@jschoeley@BMG_Bund And while I think that midwife’s and obstetricians are doing a great job and the best they possibly can, the situation in maternity wards has been getting worse. Maternity wards are struggling with staff shortage and might be overburdened: https://t.co/29DBqyo3t1
@MantheyJakob@jschoeley@BMG_Bund Since working on that topic for a couple of years now, I think that there is probably not the one big reason for the increase but rather different small ones. Maternal morbidities like obesity could be one of them, but also increasing multiple pregnancies.
Proud to be PhD supervisor of @MaxiKniffka whose work on increasing stillbirth rates is read in the German ministry of health @BMG_Bund. See also her recent publication https://t.co/q4wjej4hYx. Investigations into reasons are ongoing.
🆕Publication! @MaxiKniffka@Demographie@MineKuehn@jschoeley and Natalie Nitsche published an article in @Dt_Aerzteblatt looking for reasons for the rising stillbirth rate in Germany. (English version will be available soon) https://t.co/I9sCZCrrhV
We are very pleased to have the students with us for the 4th PHDS Graduate Workshop today and tomorrow, and look forward to their research updates and collegial exchanges!
Ahh, the thrill of including last minute results into a presentation due in 2 hours @OxfordDemSci. And thank you @MaxiKniffka who works with me on this analysis.
German rates of stillbirth increased over the last decade, making Germany a bit of a European outlier. My colleague @MaxiKniffka found that increasing maternal age is not to blame. Talk to her if you want to learn more about her soon to be published research.#PAA2023
@MaxiKniffka and I summarized the results of our study on life expectancy since Covid-19 in this research briefing. Crucially: „Without the timely work by @HMDatabase this paper would have taken another year to write.“ https://t.co/kHS0hh0poe
Exciting first meet and greet today with our new students of the cohort of 2022! We are very much looking forward to working with you all: Welcome to PHDS and good luck with your studies!

📢 New paper out 📢
With @NHiekel we study mental health inequalities during the first lockdown in Germany. We found that partnered mothers emerge as a new vulnerable group.

Higher vaccination quota in fall is associated with smaller life expectancy deficit in 2021 across countries. This is true for ages 60+ and ages <60. Confounded, yes, but unsurprising as well. Upcoming work with massive input from @MaxiKniffka (COVerAGE-DB) and @HMDatabase data.
2021 saw NEW RECORD drops of life expectancy but also BOUNCE-BACKS from the losses of 2020. Life exp. is a measure of current population health and declines as mortality increases. Upcoming work with @ikashnitsky @jm_aburto @ridhikash07@MaxiKniffka#poptwitter#epitwitter
