My research shows that a big source of burnout for DEI pros are liberal-ish white admins who act as DEI gatekeepers and police mostly Black & Brown DEI specialists. The liberal white delusion is that often the gatekeepers see themselves as in solidarity w/ the people they police.
A few peers & I who’ve felt the dreadful impact & isolation of not matching in #APPIC phase(s) 1, 2, &/or post-match vacancy are offering a supportive resource for students entering phase 2. Pls share widely, & off social, accounting for those who may be choosing to stay offline.
Being Black in a predominantly white work environment makes you hypervisible. In my eval, the comment “I don’t see you very much,” was made. Another colleague said, “We don’t want to bug you. It’s helpful if you’re close by.” Y’all. I’m going to do my best to articulate this 1/
I am not intimidating, you’re intimidated. There’s a difference. I’m not mean, nor aggressive, I am honest & assertive & that makes u uncomfortable. And it’s not ME that makes u uncomfortable, my PRESENCE challenges ur comfort. I will not be less for u to feel better about urself
