This is the moment Ratcliffe power station came off the electricity system for the final time, marking the end of 142 years of coal generating electricity in Great Britain!
@Victoria_Spratt@theipaper Awareness of it? Yes, there's a liability issue if one partner is going into debt the other isn't aware of, for example.
Access or control of it? No, that's what joint accounts are for.
@OzKaterji My party?
All I did was point out that the money saved from this isn't actually going to be spent on anything, if you think your response was in any way normal, you and I live in very different realities.
This whole thread is... weird, but this one is telling.
The money 'saved' from means testing winter fuel payments is not going to be spent on youth services or a bus route. It's not going to be spent *at all*.
Please, keep screaming at me. I’m in hysterics, wiping the laughter tears from my cheeks, and I’m already imagining spending your nan’s cheque on youth services & a new bus route.
I can’t stress enough how cathartic this is.
You lost. You’ve got 5 more years of this. Sit down.
E01 passes (narrowly)!!!!!!!
@TheGreenParty now supports new High Speed rail for the north of England!

Ah christ, I can't even begin with this one, but I do feel the need to say that the paragraph below is demonstrably and very clearly total bullshit. The report quite firmly found the opposite
Woah! New research shows how vital biodiversity is to thriving humanity: In US counties where bats declined from white-nose syndrome, insect numbers surged, leading to a 31% rise in pesticide use and subsequently *an 8% increase in infant mortality*! #Biodiversity#Conservation
They should be heavily taxed. Larger cars consume more of the public realm not just in the physical space they take up, but also with increased carbon emissions, air pollution and danger to everyone else. It's even worse when they transport a single occupant, as is often the case
Rachel Reeves statement translated: "We're going to try Thatcherism again, but this time in a red hat with a bobble on. This time it will be different to the previous 50 times, promise!"
@JonnElledge I get it for why they don't whip MPs, but why don't they make councillors buckle up (and/or shut up). Especially during the HS2 debacle - several seniors were clearly internally wishing the councillors/membership would shut up about the nice electric trains.
So, I think when my editor asked me to do a long list of Tory policy screw ups since 2010, he was expecting something funny?
The reality was... not particularly funny.

@Heresy_Corner I think it's more that a whole bunch of people who don't usually watch unedited videos of him, who mostly gets news from text websites or tictok or videos about him (rather than of him), saw him unedited for the first time in 4 years and went "...shit, he really is *old*"
We’re lobbying for Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology (ANPR) to be made mandatory, and printed on all drive-thru packaging. If your packaging is littered it’ll be cross-checked with DVLA records and you’ll be fined. We’re lovin’ it! 😂
There was some big news this week which should have been top of the news agenda - the fact that it wasn’t and the story that dominated the public space instead tells a worrying story about the priorities of many in this country 🧵
