This is a devastating interview.
Scott Pelley tells the NYT that Bari Weiss directly put a “thumb on the scale” for Trump over the killing of Renee Good.
Here’s his explanation of exactly what happened.
Scott Pelley responds to Trump saying he doesn’t care about the country: “I’ve never worn the uniform, but I’ve been in combat for this country. In Afghanistan, and Iraq, Kuwait. Been shot at. Spent nights in foxholes filling up with water in the desert. I’m not aware that the president has ever done any of those things for his country. You become a journalist because you love the First Amendment, you love the country. While all the other descriptions the president used about me might be applicable, not that one”
New statement from Scott Pelley:
There has never been anything in America like 60 Minutes.
The Sunday tradition is the most successful program of any kind in history. For more than a decade, its innovative growth on every major online platform has extended its reach to countless millions around the world. This spring, at the end of our 58thseason, 60 Minutes grew rapidly with an unheard-of 9% jump in viewers on CBS.
“60” has been the number-one program in America for decades because our beloved audience finds integrity, quality, and humanity in our stories. When stewardship of the program passed to my colleagues and me, our responsibility was to expand energetically into a new age of media technology while preserving the values our audience expects. Now, the new owner of our network is casting this legend aside, apparently to curry a moment of favor with the Trump administration.
The waste is heartbreaking.
Last month, 60 Minutes lost its DNA when our entire senior leadership and two of our best on-air correspondents were cruelly fired without cause. Good people were silenced because they stood up for our audience. They stood for fairness against the forces of political bias; they stood for professionalism against chaos.
For my part, new management has instructed me to inject falsehoods and bias into a politically sensitive story. I’ve been told to include assertions that are unverified. To date, in every case, I have managed to ignore these instructions or refuse them. Recently, politicians have been invited to choose correspondents for interviews on the broadcast. Giving politicians control over 60 Minutes interviews is not how this is done. Finally, incompetence and unprofessionalism in the new management have wreaked havoc. In a case involving one of my stories, the entire program came within 19 minutes of not getting on the air at all.
At 60 Minutes, we have fought harder than anyone knows to save the program that became an American icon. We owed that to our millions of viewers. I am deeply moved by the thousands of wishes we have received to “keep up the good fight.” Most of the men and women of CBS News are still in that fight. But now the collapse of values at the top has become untenable. The leadership of 60 Minutes is no longer recognizable. The principles I hold dear are gone, and so I must leave as well.
I depart after 37 years at CBS with one emotion—a heart brimming with gratitude for the men and women of CBS News who encouraged and enriched my work, very often at the risk of their own lives. I pray for a day when those people and their ideals are honored again—a day when sanity, competence, and courage return.

As President, I would read 10 letters a day sent to me by ordinary Americans. At the Obama Presidential Center, we’ll have some of the letters I read — and responded to — every night. I still get emotional reading them, and it’s one of my favorite exhibits.
Jimmy Kimmel: We have the right guaranteed by the Constitution to criticize and satirize our leaders. This is a right that I took for granted until last year when the FCC delivered a very unpleasant surprise. But then I watched as millions of people objected because they refuse to allow our freedoms to be bulldozed like the East Wing of the White House. We will not stand by when comedy and journalism are censored and criminalized.
Jennifer Welch on Trump: “There is no other side to this. This man is crazy. This man is unfit. This man should not be in a position of power. He is surrounded by broken degenerates. He will escalate and the media does absolutely fucking nothing to cover it. They trot out like there’s two sides to this lying delusional unhinged maniac. There’s only one side here. He is unfit, he is crazy, he is committing crimes, he is stealing money from the government. Every single deal he does is a shakedown to enrich everybody except for the American people. He’s laser focused on his ballroom. A ballroom that nobody wants except for him because: He. Will. Not. Leave. The. White. House. Period.”
While Donald Trump is getting dissed by American artists such as Milli Vanilli and Brett Michaels, President Claudia Sheinbaum is welcoming U2 to Mexico to talk about what a real president does with their power. Universal healthcare and raising the minimum wage. Love it!!
BREAKING: In a humiliating move, Donald Trump's Chief of Staff just asked JD Vance to get off of Twitter because he was behaving beneath the office of the Vice Presidency. MAGA is in extreme disarray. Good.
#BREAKING: Psaki: “…I have to start tonight with a story that in any other administration, would be grounds for opening an impeachment inquiry, because today ProPublica reported that the White House intervened to get a $620 million deal for a company tied to President Trump’s adult son @DonaldJTrumpJr…the deal in question involved a startup focused on rare earth magnet production called Vulcan Elements and last Summer, Don Jr’s venture capital firm took an undisclosed stake in that company, and wouldn’t you know…three months later, the Pentagon announced that it was giving Vulcan Elements a $620 million loan.”🙄🤦♀️
🚨 BOMBSHELL: Expert Tara Setmayer exposes massive Trump family corruption on CNN. She confirms Don Jr's net worth exploded from $50M to $300M in one year as their corporations suddenly received massive government contracts.
The White House is actively looting the taxpayers!
🚨BREAKING: Rep. Ansari stepped out of Pam Bondi's Epstein files interview to tell the American people what's happening behind closed doors.
"The DOJ has been weaponized by Donald Trump to ensure that the most massive cover-up in American history is carried out."
She didn't stop there.
Ansari also accused James Comer, Mike Johnson, and Republican leadership of helping enable it.
They’re not even trying to hide it anymore. A total sham.
It is good to hear Kobe Bryant’s testimony about Michael Jackson. He was shocked when MJ told him that when practicing, he usually dances until he can’t dance 🕺 anymore. That’s how the legend was working so hard, and that changed Kobe’s mindset!
Robert De Niro on Donald Trump: “He’s a punk. He’s a dog. He’s a pig. He’s a con. A bullshit artist. A mutt who doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Doesn’t do his homework. Doesn’t care. Doesn’t pay his taxes. He’s an idiot. He’s a national disaster. He’s an embarrassment to this country.”
Ken Paxton is the most corrupt politician in America.
He embodies the broken system we’re running against.
It’s time to come together: The People vs. Ken Paxton
BREAKING: James Talarico just torched Ken Paxton in a way we didn’t think was possible. Retweet this to make sure every Texan knows how corrupt Paxton really is.
Every year, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring.
They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died.
France also gave us this land as American soil. #MemorialDayWeekend
