Today I had the privilege of presenting Lutheran Social Services Food Pantry a $500 check from NOPEC, Lancaster’s electric aggregator.

Accepting the check was Manager Misty Decker and Assistant Manager Karen Oslanzi. The Food Pantry was a beehive of activity during my visit.

NEW BUSINESS FILINGS Ohio Secretary of State Husted has announced that 9,652 new entities have filed to do business in Ohio in July. That is an increase from the 852 businesses that filed in July of 2017. This brings the total of new businesses in Ohio since January to 76,130.

This week Lancaster was again named a Tree City USA and for the 2nd year in a row received the Growth Award. Also, our city will host the awards celebration in 2021. At the Tree Commission Meeting today, Dave Burt was recognized for 40 years of service on the Commission.

Today I attended the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission’s Annual State of the Region presentation. The keynote speaker was the former chief planner for the city of Toronto, Canada. She shared a positive message about Downtown living.

Last week I participated in a public hearing involving the residents of Roxton Ravine. I was impressed by how many of those offering testimony had recently retired and moved back to Lancaster – their hometown. It was a fitting tribute to how wonderful and appreciated our city is.

GOBA is bringing 1,500 bicyclists to Lancaster overnight on June 20 and 21. A huge opportunity to show off our city to visitors from all over the state. Most will be camping at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds and eating, shopping and touring while here.

The national Salt Institute named the Lancaster Department of Transportation as one of 85 transportation facilities across the country cited for a Safe and Sustainable Snowfighting award for environmental consciousness and effective management in the storage of winter road salt.
