101-year-old great-grandma Esther Ogunmabo arrested in Ogun State for selling drugs in sachets

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a 101-year-old great-grandmother for dealing in illicit drugs.

The great-grandmother, identified as Esther Ogunmabo, was arrested in Ilisan, Ogun State, with retail sachets of skunk, a strain of cannabis, weighing 90 grammes, which she claimed she sold to locals.

A statement on Sunday by the agency’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said the centenarian told operatives that she started engaging in illicit drug trade after her provisions shop was razed by fire.

The statement partly read, “Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have recorded significant breakthroughs across the country’s land and maritime borders, including the arrest of a 101-year-old great-grandmother for dealing in illicit drugs.

PETER OBI: A SYMBOL OF CREDIBILITY, ACCOUNTABILITY, INTEGRITY, AND HONESTY

Nigeria stands at a critical point in its history. More than ever, our nation needs leaders who are credible, accountable, transparent, disciplined, and committed to serving the people above personal interests.

Many Nigerians see Peter Obi as someone who has consistently emphasized prudent management of public resources, accountability in governance, and the need to invest in education, healthcare, security, and productive sectors of the economy. Whether one agrees with all his policies or not, his message has inspired many citizens to demand higher standards of leadership.

For decades, ethnic politics, tribal sentiments, and discrimination have continued to divide Nigerians. Rather than choosing leaders based on competence, vision, and character, we have too often allowed ethnicity and religion to influence our decisions. The result has been deep divisions, mistrust, and setbacks in national development.

Nigeria belongs to every Nigerian. Our votes should reflect our hopes for a better future, not our tribal identities. The time has come to judge leaders by their integrity, competence, accountability, and commitment to the welfare of the people.

It is also important to remember that since Nigeria gained independence in 1960, no person of Igbo ethnicity has been elected as President through a democratic presidential election. Nnamdi Azikiwe served as Nigeria's ceremonial President during the First Republic, but the executive Head of Government at the time was the Prime Minister. Since the return to democratic rule in 1999, no Igbo candidate has been elected President.

As citizens, we should reject hate, discrimination, and division. Let us embrace unity, justice, fairness, and the principle that every qualified Nigerian, regardless of ethnic background, deserves an equal opportunity to lead.

Nigeria will move forward when competence is placed above tribe, integrity above sentiment, and national interest above personal or sectional interests.

Vote with your conscience. Vote for the Nigeria you want to see.
