The fix was using useSafeAreaInsets() from react-native-safe-area-context:

Applied the bottom inset to the style of the bottom bar which was perfect to stay above the system navigation.

Sharing this in case someone else spends hours debugging the same thing. Keep grinding.😊

Worked on an Expo app and my bottom tabs keep sitting under the Android navigation bar instead of above it.
Thought safearea accounts for this, now I know not.

Has anyone experienced this before? What was your fix?
