Today was the official kickoff of rodeo season in @cityofcos!
This summer, we’re looking forward to beloved traditions like the Western Street Breakfast on June 17, the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo, and so many other events that bring our community together.
The American West is woven into the story of Colorado Springs. Its spirit of courage, resilience, hard work, and adventure continues to shape who we are today.
As we celebrate Colorado’s 150th anniversary and America’s 250th anniversary, it’s a fitting time to honor the people, traditions, and stories that helped build our state and our city.
Here’s to a great rodeo season and a summer full of Colorado pride.
While the 2026 Point-in-Time Count from the Pikes Peak Continuum of Care represents a snapshot of a single night, this year’s results are encouraging. The decrease reflects the impact of the hard work happening every day across our community to connect people with shelter, services, housing, and support.
@cityofcos remains committed to doing its part through street outreach, public safety coordination, shelter support, cold weather response, encampment management, neighborhood cleanups, and investments in long-term housing solutions. But meaningful progress is never the result of government alone.
This progress belongs to a village of partners: service providers, nonprofit and faith-based organizations, outreach teams, volunteers, businesses, public safety professionals, and individuals with lived experience; all working together to address one of our community’s most complex challenges. While there is still much work ahead, these results remind us that action matters, coordinated efforts matter, and hope matters.
@CityofCOS faces a significant childcare shortage, with a need for more than 17,000 additional childcare slots across our community. That gap impacts families, employers, and our local economy.
That’s why today’s ribbon cutting of Lion’s Path Preschool at Discovery Church @live2rescue is worth celebrating. By creating 188 new childcare slots, this project is helping address a critical community need and making Colorado Springs a more family-friendly city.
Thank you to Discovery Church, the COS City Hub, and all the partners who helped bring this vision to life, and for showing a model that other churches and organizations can model to address this need in our city. Because when children thrive, families thrive - and our entire city flourishes.
As a father of three young children, I know firsthand how challenging it can be to find quality childcare in @CityofCOS. That's why I asked our Planning Department to identify ways we could remove barriers and make it easier for childcare providers to serve more families.
This week, City Council took an important step forward by approving on first reading updates to our zoning code that would make it easier for childcare centers to operate in more parts of our city.
The need is real. @epccolorado_ has approximately 47,000 children under age five but only about 18,000 licensed childcare slots.
These changes won't solve the shortage overnight, but they are a practical step toward expanding access for families and creating more opportunities for providers.
Making Colorado Springs the best place to live, work, and raise a family requires action. This is part of our broader strategy to support working parents, strengthen families, and help every child get a strong start in life.
Thank you to City Council, our Planning Department, and the childcare advocates and providers who helped move this effort forward.
Today's announcement is a strong vote of confidence in @cityofcos and the critical role our community plays in America's space and national security missions.
The decision to locate the U.S. Space Force's Infrastructure Portfolio Acquisition Executive at @peterson_ussf, combined with a new $250 million operations facility and support for 2,500 civilian jobs at Schriever Space Force Base, represents a major investment in both our nation's security and our region's economy.
I have consistently said that mission readiness should come before politics. Today's announcement demonstrates that when it comes to supporting the @USSpaceForce, Colorado Springs proves every day that we are the premier place to support the nation's space mission. I am grateful to the Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink and our military leaders for their continued partnership and commitment to our region.
This partnership was on full display today when I hosted a Military Installation–Developer Roundtable to strengthen partnerships between our local military installations, development community, and City staff. These conversations improve coordination and ensure we continue building a community that supports both mission readiness and responsible growth.
My administration remains focused on supporting our installations, military families, and defense industry partners while positioning Colorado Springs for future opportunities that strengthen both our economy and our national security
Today, my family and I visited the United States Olympic & Paralympic Training Center for a special literacy event hosted by Second Lady Usha Vance alongside Olympic wrestling champion Adeline Gray.
As a father of three young kids, I know the power of reading. Sharing books with our children sparks imagination, builds confidence, and opens doors to opportunity. Thank you to the Second Lady, Adeline Gray, and everyone who helped make today such a meaningful celebration of literacy, learning, and family.
It's a beautiful day! Congratulations to all our graduating cadets today! A reminder to everyone, please plan extra travel time today, even on your usual travel routes around town, be prepared for unexpected traffic congestion - especially before and after the graduation ceremony on the north end of town around the Air Force Academy. Be patient and be prepared for potential road closures and rolling road closures. If you see anything out of place, please call 719-444-7000.
This Memorial Day weekend, I had the honor of joining our community in remembering and honoring the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation.
From the Mountain Post Warrior Memorial Ceremony at Fort Carson to the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial in Memorial Park, these moments were powerful reminders that freedom is never free.
@cityofcos is proud to be a strong military community, and this weekend we paused together in gratitude, reflection, and remembrance.
To our Gold Star families, veterans, active-duty service members, and all who carry the weight of sacrifice, we honor you, we remember, and we thank you.
May we never take for granted the courage of those who gave everything for our country.
Yesterday, @CityofCOS launched the Pothole Watch and beginning next week, we will launch a 5-week citywide pothole repair surge focused on accelerating repairs and aggressively responding to resident reports.
We are concentrating crews and resources on one of the issues residents care most about.
And you our residents play an important role in this effort. If you see a pothole, report it. Use the GoCOS app, call 719-385-ROAD, or submit a request through the City’s online chatbot.
Your reports matter. Your feedback matters. And we are listening and responding. With the new Pothole Watch dashboard, residents can track the progress of their report and hold us accountable to our deliverables. Check out the dashboard at https://t.co/UAQSyhKSra
And because I want residents engaged in this effort, I am making a commitment.
Over the next month, I will personally help fill some potholes submitted through the GoCOS app during this repair surge.
Now before anyone gets nervous, no, Public Works is not turning me loose with a pothole truck unsupervised. That would be a terrible idea. 😊 But I want residents to know this issue matters to me personally. So, if you see a pothole, report it.
To every graduate across @cityofcos, congratulations! 🎓
Take a moment to truly celebrate your hard work, your perseverance, your late nights, and your sacrifices. And be sure to show gratitude to the people who stood beside you every step of the way.
As you step into this next season, I want to share something that inspires me daily: The Lion Chaser’s Manifesto by Mark Batterson — a reminder to dream big, chase purpose, face your fears, and never hold back from the life you were created to live.
Colorado Springs is proud of you. The future of our city is in good hands.
What a privilege it was to attend and speak at the 18th Annual Diocesan Blue Mass at Saint Mary's Cathedral.
This was an opportunity to honor our fallen, uplift our first responder community, and remind ourselves that behind every uniform is a human being made in the image of God.
To every police officer, firefighter, chaplain, EMT, dispatcher, deputy, trooper, and public safety professional: thank you for your courage, sacrifice, and service to @CityofCOS
And to the families who stand beside them through every call, every uncertainty, and every hard day, we honor you too.
Help us help you—keep @CityofCOS roads safe and smooth by reporting potholes when you see them.

Together, we can fix these potholes and keep Colorado Springs moving onward and upward. 🚧
I had the privilege of surprising Bob Chastain, @CheyenneMtnZoo President & CEO, with the Mayor’s Spirit of Colorado Springs Award for his extraordinary leadership and lasting impact on our city.
For nearly 30 years, Bob helped shape Cheyenne Mountain Zoo into a world-class institution and a place where families create lifelong memories, children experience wonder, and our community comes together.
@CityofCOS is stronger because of leaders like Bob. Please join me in congratulating him on this well-deserved honor.
I had the opportunity to visit the @csfdpio training complex and witness firsthand the rigor, discipline, and intensity it takes to prepare for duty. More than two dozen recruits are currently training to join one of the most respected and nationally recognized fire departments in the country.
@cityofcos is safer because of their courage and willingness to run toward danger when others run away. Thank you for answering the call to serve.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and @cityofcos is committed to building a community where every person feels seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.
Last weekend, I joined National Alliance on Mental Illness - CS for their annual Mental Health & Wellness Fest. This year's NAMIWalk raised $82,000 dollars for mental health services, life-changing programs, and comprehensive education and guidance.
Thank you to the mental health professionals, first responders, nonprofits, faith leaders, employers, and advocates working every day to reduce stigma, strengthen connection, and bring hope to those who need it most. Together, we are building a healthier, more compassionate Colorado Springs.
Today, @CityofCOS officially launched Safe Streets COS, a citywide effort to make our roads safer and save lives.
Traffic safety is a shared responsibility, and we all have a role to play. Through engineering, education, enforcement, and technology, we are taking action now to reduce crashes and protect our kids and families.
We’re already seeing results. Speed safety cameras have reduced speeding in targeted locations, such as near schools, parks, and residential areas. @CSPDPIO
Slow down. Stay alert. Drive responsibly. Together, we can build a safer Colorado Springs for everyone.

Colorado Springs 911 calls are now being answered 86% of the time in 20 seconds or less.
That means faster response, faster coordination, and greater peace of mind for the people we serve.
I’m proud of the progress we’re making to strengthen public safety in our city, and grateful for the dispatchers, firefighters, officers, and emergency personnel who show up every single day to serve our community with professionalism, courage, and care. Colorado Springs is safer because of you.
@CSPDPIO
It was an honor to greet 50 veterans, their families, and caregivers as they prepare for their Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., a journey to visit the memorials dedicated to those who served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
These men and women represent courage, sacrifice, and quiet strength. Their service helped secure the freedoms we enjoy today, and we must never take that for granted.
One of the most powerful parts of the evening was seeing generations connect — young people looking veterans in the eye, shaking their hands, and saying, “thank you.” That kind of gratitude matters. Honor matters. Remembering matters.
Thank you to @Broncos Garrett Bolles for joining us in recognizing these American heroes, and thank you to @USAA for hosting this meaningful kickoff gathering and continuing to support those who have served our nation.
