Ronaldo told the press recently that he’ll do whatever is needed for the Portugal National Team, including staying on the bench.

The truth is that players like him are not wired like that. These guys have played football for over 20 years and never been bench players.

Check anytime he’s been benched, he loses his head. Ten Hag benched him and he left the stadium while the game was on. Even if these type of players are not playing like the way they used to, due to age, they still believe they should not be on the bench.

This is because they’re not used to it. If you bench Endrick, he can’t lose his head, because he’s quite used to it. Salah was not at his usual level last season for instance, a normal coach should bench him right, but he was losing his head. These guys have been at the top for a long time, they’re stars with big egos, they cannot deal with it because they’re not used to it.

Those things Ronaldo said in that interview are just mere words because players like him are not used to such situations. Even if this one time didn’t cause whatever is happening, imagine the coach benches him back to back, he’ll go crazy.

We may not know the full details of what transpired, but we can make inferences. There’s a good chance that if he played that last game, he probably won’t be heading home now.

As at this morning, he didn’t train with the group, all of a sudden, it was reported that the President of the Portuguese federation was traveling in from Portugal. All is not well in that camp, that is certain.

Do you know the crazy part about players like him? The risk of putting them on the bench creates a different kind of noise in the dressing room.

Every good thing always comes to an end. When you overstay sometimes, you begin to taint your legacy. Human memory is the worst, they only remember the recent things.

There’s nothing better than leaving on a high. Last 4 world cups, 3 finals, 1 World Cup, 2 golden balls. Won last 2 Copa Americas, and retired on a high.

If he waits till next Copa America or World Cup, you could be hearing things like Nico Paz should start ahead of Messi after a bad game, people will forget what he’s done, this is when you know that insults has entered the matter. Leave before you start tainting your legacy. His team mates will be looking at him with different eyes.

This is applicable to us also as humans. There are places you go to, once you see that you’ve overstayed, leave.
