Pope Francis was the rare leader who made us want to be better people. In his humility and his gestures at once simple and profound – embracing the sick, ministering to the homeless, washing the feet of young prisoners – he shook us out of our complacency and reminded us that we are all bound by moral obligations to God and one another.
Today, Michelle and I mourn with everyone around the world – Catholic and non-Catholic alike – who drew strength and inspiration from the Pope’s example. May we continue to heed his call to “never remain on the sidelines of this march of living hope.”

Please check in on your minority friends in medicine now and in the next several months. We’re entering what we have described in an DEI article “A life interrupted.” A challenge that is unique to students from a minority background is experiencing re-traumatization from world events that include public displays of racial prejudice. It feels like COVID-19 pandemic given the feeling of isolation, chaos, gaslighting, etc. SUPPORT your trainees who may be
emotionally or mentally affected by these incidents.
1 in 4 children in the U.S. has at least one immigrant parent. Policies that may be implemented under the Trump administration could have significant implications for these children, the vast majority of whom are citizens:

Trump's 'Ending Birthright Citizenship' order violates the 14th Amendment by stripping citizenship from people with non-citizen parents.
Impacts: mixed-status families could be separated or deported, & ICE could start investigating citizenship of newborns in hospitals (2/11)
I remember starting medical school and thinking 2025 was so far away. Now I’m interviewing for my dream specialty and 6 months away from becoming a doctor. 🥲
Access to birth control is access to freedom. But that freedom is being challenged. Today, we raise our voices to say #ThxBirthControl, because the policymakers who oppose abortion access are coming for our contraception too.
Using #ThxBirthControl Day to remind everyone that YOUR birth control is 100% YOUR business. Not your Tias or Tios, not the Church, not your school and definitely NOT legislators! @Bedsider@powertodecide
Find your people—they’re out here standing in solidarity with you. Grateful for a community that believes families like mine are welcome, that everyone deserves dignity, and that women should have access to safe reproductive care. 🤍

Whenever impostor syndrome kicks in, just take a deep breath, and acknowledge all you have accomplished, and that one day you dreamed of getting to where you are at now!
twas the night before OBGYN interview release day & all through the home, texting all my OB friends that we’re not in this alone 🫶🏼 sending all positive vibes to everyone who applied this year, can’t wait to meet you all on the interview trail and my future co-residents!!
Women in medicine:
- Earn less.
- Are less likely to be in leadership.
- Have fewer research opportunities.
- Spend 8.5 hours more per week on domestic responsibilities.
Yet, they spend more time with patients and provide better care.
The double standard needs to END.
