Used the chance of starting of kindle unlimited being really cheap a couple of months ago to start it and decided to use my free time (...which is not so much) to read all yuri manga I could, and so I guess I can say a few words for some of the stuff I've been reading
I might not post here any longer, you can find me in bsky in @mazyrian.bsky.social
also in mastodon in @mazyrian@https://donphan.social/ though hardly anyone seems to have moved there
once the few remaining artist I follow start their bsky accounts I may stop using this for good
and not japanese, but halfway through I actually took a break to read The king of elfland's daughter
which seems to have been a huge influence on people like Tolkien for example
it was interesting, but it has a very... poetic maybe? style of writing which made it somewhat dense to read
I known the word has become somewhat of a meme but it is kind of a deconstruction of the classical fairy tale
anyway this is ultimately just the first half of a whole, it has an open ending and there has been basically nothing of overall explanation
but I think I will read some other stuff for the time being
finished nuribotoke no utage - utage no shitaku
this time I didn't really feel it
I don't think it did anything bad but I guess I was not in the mood for a mystery maybe?
but it explains it in the same tone as all the other (seemingly real) foklore stuff, and it includes the sources in the bibliography, so I end up with the impression that the author actually believes it lmao
so, about ほねがらみ
the book has a slight meta aspect, frequently name-dropping other horror books
there is this scene where the protagonist goes "I feel like in that story from オーグリーンは死にました", and another scene where he goes "this text is similar to 忌録: document X"
btw honegarami has this bit about how a certain japanese clan was actually one of the lost tribes of israel
which I mean, sure, it's fiction, you may write anything you like
