We have been doing community barazas on GBV and Femicide in Soweto

On Friday one of the community leaders told us after the baraza , he realized how overwhelmed he has been feeling. His wife went to visit her parents upcountry in December 2023 and her ex murdered her in her parents home. Leaving him a widower with five kids.

Same Friday around 3, a boda rider brought another man. His wife's body was found near the river, she had been raped and killed. She has gone to the shop to buy groceries.

He was completely distraught and we had to walk with him to the police, report , ensure the body was transported to Mama Lucy. We also ensured the children were fed and grief counselling too.

The devastating cost of unchecked Gender Based violence is Femicide.
