Mandera County Referral Hospital:

A couple of weeks ago in Mandera, I saw two friends who obtained doctors' prescriptions for medicine in Mandera Referral Hospital but were advised to buy the medicines from outside. I was told most drugs were routinely out of stock & patients can't get medicines. Sad. It's a Level 5 Hospital but lacks even basic drugs.
The County's health ministry got sh 2.7 billion in the 2024/25 Budget. But the medicine shortage reportedly persists in most facilities, including Elwak Hospital.
According to its Website, the county has 52 medical doctors & 12 specialists as at Oct 2023. I am informed most are unavailable at their assigned facilities because they run own clinics or moonlight in other local private hospitals or outside the county. If true, it is a shame. Billions spent on facilities/ people where services are unavailable is criminal to say the least! Mandera deserves better!

Passengers in both cities complained about delays of over six hours, along with a lack of food and accommodation.
