A new report shows that buying PlayStation games on disc is usually much cheaper than buying them digitally from the PlayStation Store.
The price comparison looked at several PlayStation games and found that physical copies are often the cheaper option.
In some cases, disc versions were up to 90% cheaper than the digital version, especially after a game had been out for a while.
This is why they are pushing for all-digital: they want to get the maximum profit from this while controlling the market prices.
Sony announced them killing off physical games with a tweet and a blog post like it was some regular Wednesday, expecting people will be mad for a bit and move on.
And now the backlash has gotten so big it’s being covered by mainstream news outlets.
DON’T LET UP, DON’T SHUT UP.
Apparently, it wasn't just Sony President and CEO Hiroki Totoki who sold stock days after PlayStation announced the end of discs.
Multiple Sony executives have also been selling their shares following the backlash.
But I thought Sony said the outrage was fake and people would forget about it
The European Commission says it cannot stop Sony from ending physical PlayStation games.
In response to questions from a Member of the European Parliament, the Commission said companies are “free to offer games and services in the manner that they see fit,” as long as they follow existing consumer protection laws.
The Commission also said it has no legal basis to require companies to keep selling physical games or force them to support a specific business model.
Instead, it will continue monitoring the market and enforce EU consumer protection rules where necessary.
"If you use generative ai you've deemed it not worth your time to actually make the thing [...] You got a hacky little chatbot to do it for you. If you don't think it's worth your time to [make] it why on earth would it be worth my time to [consume] it?"

Brazil has proposed a bill with new protections for gamers 🇧🇷
• After support ends, publishers would need to either enable offline play, provide the community with tools to keep the game running, or offer proportional refunds
• Publishers would have to disclose online-server requirements and guarantee at least 2 years of support after launch in Brazil
• Players would need to be notified at least 180 days before a game's online services are shut down
• Lawmakers have also requested an investigation into Sony’s plan to end physical PlayStation disc production in 2028

'THE GHOST IN THE SHELL' Director Mokochan explains why Science SARU's Motoko is different from the 1995 film
"Our goal wasn't to emphasize [Motoko's] cold, mechanical exterior. Instead, we wanted to project her internal self and personality directly onto the screen.
Unlike the stoic, brooding Major Motoko Kusanagi from the iconic 1995 film, Science SARU's version embraces her hotheaded, expressive nature as depicted in the original manga.
For audiences who have only ever experienced 'Ghost in the Shell' through the lens of those darker, more stoic onscreen iterations, this brighter and more dynamic energy might come as a bit of a shock at first. But rest assured, the core themes haven't shifted at all."
