It is not because of your righteousness Deut 9:5&6. Even under the "covenant of works" it was only by God's grace that the Israelites would be given the land of the Canaanites. God drove them out for their wickedness but in no way did the Israelites *deserve* it in their place.
You may be feeling fit & healthy today, but Psalm 90:10 is a reminder that your days are numbered. Verse 12 tells you, "Do not be afraid to meditate on this." Our lives are like the morning mist that evaporates in the light of the sun, but even so we are precious in God's sight.
Deut 5:6. The basis of God's covenant with Israel wasn't in their obedience to the Law (which should have followed) but rather in his grace to them shown by rescuing them from the land of slavery. God doesn't change. His covenant with us also hangs on his grace & rescue from sin.
Ps 84:1-4. The Psalmist longs for the blessings of being in God's dwelling place. But where is that for us? It's no longer the Temple. As believers, God dwells within each one of us. And it's when we meet with fellow-believers that we can experience the corporate presence of God.
Let us offer up the refrain of Ps 80 "Restore us, O God; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved" for the churches of our nations. Too many by their compromise are a laughingstock to the world (v6). The vine is dry. Come prune the dead wood and revive the tender sprouts!
Ps78:38: "Time after time he restrained his anger." Despite repeated faithlessness by his people, God remained steadfastly faithful to his covenant. We kid ourselves if we think we would have been any better. Our only hope for mercy always lies with God, who is always faithful.
