Today I joined the YMCA for Ultimate Summer Games at Adventure Camp in Guilderland, bringing campers together for a day of fun, teamwork, and friendly competition.

I’m proud of the YMCA’s commitment to making sure every child has the opportunity to experience summer camp, including nearly $300,000 in scholarships each year to support families in our community. Thank you to the staff and volunteers who make these experiences possible.

August's Honor-a-Vet Ceremony was in honor of United States Army Joseph M. Davis. He proudly served from 1971 to 1973 as a Specialist in the 249th Engineer Battalion. During his service, he was stationed overseas in Germany for one year, where he specialized in operating heavy machinery in support of Army engineering operations. As a recognition of his honorable service during a period of national emergency, Joseph was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. While he passed in 2023, his legacy lives on.

This morning, I joined Congressman Tonko at the Coeymans wastewater treatment plant to see the damage from the recent flooding firsthand. We're working together at every level of government to ensure the facility has the resources it needs to continue serving the community.

More than 250 riders rolled into the Shaker Heritage Society on Tuesday as the Empire State Ride made its Day 3 stop in Albany County.

After conquering a 90-mile ride, participants were welcomed before continuing their 500+ mile journey across New York, which will finish in Niagara Falls tomorrow. Along the way, additional riders will join the effort, bringing this incredible community to nearly 300 cyclists, all united by one mission: ending cancer.

Yesterday, my Director of the Albany County Veterans Service Bureau, Scott Leslie, participated in a Veterans equine-assisted learning program at the Albany Therapeutic Riding Center alongside staff from the Albany VA Medical Center and more than a dozen local Veterans. This program grew out of the Bureau's ongoing efforts to expand wellness opportunities for Albany County Veterans through strong partnerships with organizations like the Albany VA Medical Center and the Albany Therapeutic Riding Center.

By participating himself, Scott experienced firsthand how equine-assisted learning can foster trust, confidence, resilience, and camaraderie among Veterans in a unique and supportive environment.

I'm grateful to everyone at the Albany Therapeutic Riding Center and the Albany VA Medical Center for helping bring this initiative to life. Together, we're creating new opportunities for Veterans to connect, heal, and thrive, and Albany County remains committed to building programs that meet our Veterans where they are.

Today, we announced a $100,000 investment in The Food Pantries for the Capital District to help strengthen the network of food pantries serving Albany County.

With food costs continuing to rise and uncertainty surrounding federal nutrition assistance programs, we know more families may need to turn to their local pantry for help. This investment will support programs that keep pantry shelves stocked, rescue surplus food, deliver groceries to homebound residents, connect families with food assistance, and provide diapers to parents in need.

Everyone deserves access to healthy, nutritious food. By investing in organizations that are already making a difference, we're strengthening the safety net for our neighbors today while preparing for the challenges ahead.
