Hello 2025, friends and colleagues 👋
A New Year announcement 🎺 from our team is that we will transitioning our social media postings to another place (the blue one).

Congratulations to the thirteen @TheDohertyInst researchers and postgraduate students who have been awarded the prestigious Ideas Grants and Postgraduate Scholarships by the @nhmrc! Read the full list: https://t.co/usrnIqxY2m @UniMelb @UniMelbMDHS @TheRMH
We're using laser ablation mass spectrometry to understand how trace metals are distributed by the immune system during infection.
This powerful analytical technique uses a laser beam to examine the elemental composition of solid samples.

🟦Going Blue for AMR!🟦
The McDevitt Lab went blue for AMR today to show our support for global action against antimicrobial resistance

Salma was 18 when she lost a childhood friend and close relative to AMR and pneumonia.
This motivated her to pursue a research career. Salma’s project is investigating resistance to zinc toxicity in S. pneumoniae.

It’s #WorldAntimicrobialAwarenessWeek
🔬Discovery research and the generation of new knowledge is essential in the fight against AMR.
This week we’ll be sharing insights from the team about why they’re involved in discovery research and what AMR means to them.

The CARB-X Team are developing a world-first treatment for antibiotic-resistant bacterial pneumonia.
PBT2 breaks resistance by harnessing the body’s own zinc to intoxicate the bacterium, restoring the efficacy of frontline antibiotics and protecting these life-saving drugs. 💊
This #WorldPneumoniaDay we’re celebrating some of the brilliant researchers in our team.
They’re working to advance our understanding of pneumonia and develop new antimicrobial treatments.

🔬Chloe’s research will improve our understanding of the host-pathogen interface and investigate how we can harness these molecular processes to restore the efficacy of antibiotics.

Congrats to Aurélia Hiron and team, Université de Tours, for their #genetics study into how the #pathogen Streptococcus agalactiae adapts to low #zinc. An international collaboration 🇫🇷 🇦🇺 with @camcdevitt@StephieNeville @UniMelbMDHS @TheDohertyInst

🦠🔬An international team of researchers has found that an antibiotic commonly prescribed for patients with liver disease, has led to the global emergence of an almost untreatable form of antimicrobial resistant superbug. https://t.co/nhr3qsqx4Q @UniMelbMDHS @TheRMH@Austin_Health@UniMelb
Congrats to Jane Oliaro and team on this exciting study into #zinc and how it regulates tumour cell susceptibility to T cell killing. A cool collaboration between #cancer immunologists @PeterMacCC, TNF-signalling experts @WEHI_research, & the @McDevitt_Lab
