The Papachristidis chair in Modern Greek studies and MOTS are pleased to welcome Lilyana Yordanova, a research fellow at the École française d’Athènes in Greece, presenting the "Christian Art and Privileges under the First Ottoman Sultans" talk.

The following will be discussed:

1) The patronage of Ottoman sultans over Christian monastic foundations and the reception of their image by the Christian community

The tribute included a speech by Loukas Tsiptsios, a History PhD candidate at McGill University and a musical tribute to the Smyrnaic song by artists from the Greek community.

Additionally, the New Year's pie was cut at the event.

On January 28th, the Association des travailleurs grecs du Québec successfully organised the event on the 100 years since the Asia Minor Disaster.

The event, titled "Days of Smyrna, 100 Years", was attended by many.

Immigrec project news!

Since November 12th, a McGill team of undergraduate students under the guidance of Prof. Anastassiadis and supervision of MISt cand. Christina-Rose Papagiannis has undertaken the organisation and cataloguing of the Hellenic Library of Montreal.

By the end of this unique cooperation between the University and the Community, the books will have been sorted by categories and an on-line library catalog will be available thus making this treasure-trove accessible to the wider public.
