@sarahmdarnell I don’t like when people say this and feel like it’s said to women more often than men. The day I don’t show emotion anymore is the day I need to rethink my career.
A Gallup poll showed that of ALL professions, TEACHERS were least likely to say their opinion counts & least likely to say that their supervisors create an open & sharing environment. We have to do better in engaging, supporting, & valuing our teachers & their expertise.
Now this is very interesting, and I don't think at all obvious. Reading challenging texts aloud, and at a fast pace, improved the reading comprehension of all students, but for the lowest achievers, the gains were almost twice as great: https://t.co/TxJ1MZPI4X.
It’s true that admins should “inspect what they expect.” Accountability is a real thing. But they should always assume Ts are trying to do the right thing. Every teacher wants to be a good teacher, & this assumption provides a good foundation for the teacher/ admin relationship.
"We should be continuing to respond to the needs of students, when the needs change..our practices change to meet their needs. " Susan Barrett , National PBIS.
"The achievement gap is NOT an accident. No matter where you are, you get the exact same results that tells you the system is operating as designed." NHJ #CarnegieSummit2019

2 things that every educator needs to remember on Friday if you've had a tough week:
1. The safety & support that you've given your Ss has helped them more than be measured.
2. You need to take care of yourself this weekend so that you can be at your best again on Monday. #SEL
