Where does a metastatic cell become metastatic?
After 7 years of work, 614 participants, and analysis across 21 solid tumor types, we propose that the answer may lie within the central lymphatic system.
The cisterna chyli contained 12–15× more circulating tumor cells than blood and was enriched for EMT, stemness, proliferation, and invasion programs.
Not proof.
Not a conclusion.
But perhaps the beginning of a new way of thinking about metastasis.
