We’re now in the longest dispute on Merseyside since the dockers took action in the 90s. Testament to the enormous combined effort of each and every participating worker! 😀
Postgraduate researchers do a huge amount to keep the higher education system running - but they are exploited, underappreciated and denied the same benefits as staff
That's why today we are proud to launch our new #PGRsAsStaff manifesto

“It feels like management is pitting the public access and engagement against research, as if the two can’t now work in tandem... Now one has to come at the expense of the other.”

During my PhD, at an expensive conference dinner, a senior academic declared just how fortunate she thought doctoral students were for having the time & space to think. One such student had already stopped attending reading groups because she could no longer afford the bus fare.
The Researcher Development Concordat could and must be much stronger on employment security.
Our employer is holding a consultation meeting on local implementation of the Concordat tomorrow 10am – I'm sure they want to hear the views of precarious staff!

Unis increasingly using short term employment contracts for teaching staff, or even declaring them 'independent contractors'+denying them worker rights. But the recent Uber ruling says this is illegal!
Short course tutors at Goldmsiths are fighting back. https://t.co/bMZKacAJ3x
Breaking ⚡️We're bringing @GoldsmithsUoL to court for its refusal to recognise our workers' rights! Help us win this case & set a precedent by contributing to our fund! 🔥✊ https://t.co/IlA2LNpCPW Let's stop the uberification of higher education! 🔥
Thank you so much to Steffan Blayney & @benpope45 from @Mcr_Precariat & @sheffielducu for coming and talking to our MMU anti-casualisation network on ways to organise and campaign ✊@manmetucu @UCUAnti_Cas
