যাবজ্জীবন সাজা প্রাপ্ত মানুষদের মধ্যে যাঁদের ইতিমধ্যেই ১৪ বছরের বেশি বন্দিদশা সম্পূর্ণ হয়ে গেছে, তাঁদের অনেককেই আমাদের সরকার আইন মেনে মুক্তি দিয়েছে। ২০১১ সালের পর থেকে এখনো পর্যন্ত ৮৪০ জন এরকম মানুষ ছাড়া পেয়েছেন। আরো ৪৫ জনকে আইনের পথে মুক্তি দেওয়া হচ্ছে। আমি তাঁদের ও তাঁদের পরিবারের সকলকে আমার অভিনন্দন জানাই।

আমি জেনেছি, বন্দিজীবনে এঁদের আচরণ ভালো ছিল। তারই স্বীকৃতি এই মুক্তি।

সংশোধনাগারের কাজ অপরাধীদের মানসিকতার পরিবর্তন করে তাঁদের সমাজের মূল স্রোতে ফিরিয়ে আনা।

আমি আশা করব, এই মুক্তি প্রাপ্ত বন্দিরা তাঁদের নতুন ও মুক্ত জীবনে সুনাগরিক হয়ে উঠবেন-- তাহলেই আমাদের এই প্রচেষ্টা সফল হবে।
