Why am I never given what is easy?
Is my purpose only to shoulder the hardest labor,
to carry what others set down,
to endure the weight in silence,
even when no one stands beside me?

There is no home for me,
because wherever I go,
love never calls my name.
I am not the first choice,
only the silence between needs,
the body that completes what is lacking,
then fades once the emptiness is gone.

I love watching romance unfold on a screen,
strangers finding their forever in two hours or less. When the credits roll, I am still here,
searching for a love that has not learned my name.
How ironic.

There are things I long to do with someone beside me, but I leave them undoneโ not knowing who to ask, or whether they would say yes, or if I am brave enough to invite them at all.
