But just as his minds began their journey, the girls grandmother spoke. low bits of thunder crackled behind each word.

Her voice in the early mornings before school. Calling to him. "Gotta go, Sleepy Mo!"

And as if conjured by the mere sight of the girl, Meehars mother flooded the lonely arenas of his mind.

It seemed as though decades had passed since he last set eyes upon her.

Time was awkward in this place. The way the old town swallowed it up & spit out hours that lasted for days on end.

The daughter by proxy.
The girl of hidden lanes.
His savior.

"Granny, stop." And there she was. Walking from around a corner to the old womans side. Hair of onyx. Stolen honey eyes.

Before the old woman could venture a reply, the sounds of footsteps over time spent wood tumbled from behind her.

"The place looked abandoned. The door, unlocked. I saw no harm in resting."

The next words spoken from the twin minds of Twain were laced with fatigued thorns of slumber, but the old woman heard them well enough.

Calm. Moments like this require calm.

A level head in the face of embattlement.

He didn't fear the lords thunder in the old womans hands. He feared the red eyed hurricane slowly churning in his own.

But Meehar was over thinking the situation. That shotgun was throwing him off. Fear was throwing him off.
