If you’re evaluating a crypto recovery firm, assume it’s a scam until it proves otherwise. Legitimate recovery services are rare, and many “recovery firms” are simply a second scam targeting victims of the first theft.
Here are the most important questions to ask:
1. How exactly do you recover funds?
Ask them to explain their process in plain English.
Red flags:
“We hack the hacker.”
“We reverse blockchain transactions.”
“We have relationships with exchanges that guarantee recovery.”
Vague references to “cyber forensics” without specifics.
Legitimate firms should discuss:
Blockchain tracing
Evidence collection
Exchange notifications
Law enforcement referrals
Asset freezing requests (when possible)
2. What percentage of cases result in actual recovered funds?
Ask:
How many cases have you handled?
How many resulted in funds being returned?
What was the average recovery amount?
If they won’t provide statistics, be cautious.
3. Can you provide verifiable references?
Ask for:
Previous clients willing to speak with you
Public reviews
Court cases
Media coverage
Verify independently.
4. Are you licensed investigators, attorneys, or forensic analysts?
Ask for:
Names of key personnel
Professional licenses
Certifications
Company registration
Then verify those credentials yourself.
5. What blockchain tracing tools do you use?
Legitimate firms often use platforms such as:
Chainalysis
TRM Labs
Elliptic
If they’ve never heard of these tools, that’s concerning.
6. What are your fees?
Ask:
Is payment upfront?
Is any portion contingent on recovery?
What exactly am I paying for?
Major red flag:
Large upfront fees combined with recovery guarantees.
7. Do you guarantee recovery?
The correct answer is NO.
No legitimate investigator can guarantee recovery of stolen crypto.
8. Will you provide a written engagement agreement?
You should receive:
Scope of work
Fee schedule
Deliverables
Refund policy
Never rely on verbal promises.
9. What specific deliverables will I receive?
Examples:
Blockchain tracing report
Wallet attribution analysis
Exchange contact package
Law enforcement package
You should know exactly what you’re buying.
10. Have you worked with law enforcement?
Ask:
Which agencies?
In what capacity?
Can you provide examples (without revealing confidential information)?
11. What is your physical business address?
Verify:
Office location
Company registration
Years in business
Be wary of firms that only communicate through Telegram, WhatsApp, or X.
12. Who contacted whom first?
One of the biggest red flags:
If someone contacted you after posting about being hacked and offered recovery services, there’s a high probability it’s a recovery scam.
Questions that often expose scammers quickly
Ask:
“Can you recover funds from a non-custodial wallet without cooperation from the holder?”
“Can blockchain transactions be reversed?”
“Can you guarantee recovery?”
“What percentage of your revenue comes from upfront fees versus successful recoveries?”
A scammer will usually become evasive.
Immediate deal-breakers
Walk away if they:
Ask for your seed phrase.
Ask for private keys.
Ask you to “synchronize” your wallet.
Ask you to connect your wallet to their website.
Request remote access to your computer.
Guarantee recovery.
Demand payment in crypto only.
Pressure you to act immediately.
Given your prior interest in crypto security and recovery after a hack, I’d recommend treating any recovery firm with the same scrutiny you’d use for a financial advisor handling your life savings. One good test is to ask for their engagement agreement and fee schedule before discussing your case. Scammers often disappear at that point.
This crypto hack completely dysregulated my nervous system.
I haven’t truly relaxed or felt peace in months.
The anxiety, hyper-vigilance, grief, anger, and constant “what if” thoughts can consume you if you let them. But I’m learning that healing doesn’t happen all at once. It happens one intentional decision at a time.
Things helping me regain peace and stability:
• Breath work
• Prayer
• Quiet walks / being still
• Small focused tasks (even 100 pushups)
• Positive words of affirmation
• Fasting
• Creating consistency and routine
Healing begins the moment we decide not to stay broken.
God can create a breakthrough even in the middle of devastation.
Reminder - Fraudulent crypto investment consultants and counterfeit support services continue exploiting innocent users through deceptive online tactics.
Would you like me to research who are some legitimate recovery firms?
I am encouraged hearing from followers who have overcome blockchain crimes. Their courage and optimism inspires me.
One such person shared with me today -
"What helped me was to focus on what I still have (health, family, friends, and abilities) rather to focus on what I lost. So my mindset shifted from 'stupid worthless victim' to be grateful for what I've got. Once my mental and emotional state changed, I managed to move forward and started to recover little by little my portfolio.
But I am not going to lie, it was a hard process. Sometimes, I still can feel grief or anger, but as soon as I am aware, I try to go back to the gratitude state of mind."
Never keep all your crypto assets in only one wallet, exchange, or location. Depending on the value, use two to three trusted methods with redundant security protocols in place.
Critically evaluate your physical security, password security, software security and network security.
Scammers fuel our fear of loss. They make us move with urgency to complete their heist. There is a proverb that reads, "When fear takes over, reason leaves the room.”
Treat every form of contact as a likely scam. Never be forced to move quickly to secure any account. Take time to walk away. Think it through. Use a different device to contact the institution in question.
Thanks to the 2020 Ledger data breach, my personal information was exposed along with that of thousands of other customers. Soon after, I began receiving threatening letters in the mail — including Google Images photos of my home — demanding Bitcoin payments and warning that I would be harmed if I didn’t comply.
Thanks, Ledger. The very company people trusted to help protect their crypto exposed customers to criminals and dark web targeting.
Now that I’ve already been hacked and drained, there’s nothing left to steal… so maybe I can finally relax.
“Be your own bank” sounds great…
Until you watch your entire life savings disappear in seconds. 8 years of trading daily completely wiped clean. I was all in, every day. I knew someday, this would be a huge financial blessing to my children and grandchildren.
On March 5th of 2026, I watched as my entire life savings disappeared from my crypto wallet in seconds.
Foolishly, I had listened to the hypnotic instructions of what I believed was a caller from my exchange security team.
“I’VE BEEN HACKED!!!” I screamed repeatedly. My entire body shook uncontrollably as the blood felt like it drained from my body. Lightheaded, I thought I might collapse.
This was my all-time worst nightmare, but I was fully awake.
Reality hits:
There is no safety net.
No chargeback.
No customer support.
We preach “be your own bank”…
But no one talks about what happens when your bank gets wiped out.
And here’s the part no one wants to say:
No one is coming to help you! No one!
Law enforcement? Overwhelmed and not trained to protect blockchain.
Exchanges? Not their problem. Wallets? No phone support. “Decentralization”? You’re on your own.
So I sat there… shaking violently in disbelief.
Crypto has zero forgiveness.
No undo.
No help.
No safety net.
Just you… and the consequences. Empty wallet.
Full panic. Drowning in regret.

No one is safe in this space. No device immune, no portfolio off limits. Only victims and survivors. But trust me, you and your blockchain portfolio are targets. And you will be tested.
This account is dedicated to those of us who have been victimized. To those who have lost, I pray you can again find your bearing. Please share your story and resources that helped you to restore order.

Tip of the day, week, month & year. Treat EVERY call, text, email, letter, website link and solicitation as a SCAM. Caller ID means nothing, and websites are easily cloned. Even voice data can be easily copied and manipulated. And NEVER follow a provided web link. Please!
I rejected countless scam attempts over the years but let my guard down briefly and took a repeated mysterious call I thought was from Google. That led to my email getting hacked, which lead to my 24 word recovery phrase getting compromised. Which has lead to a living hell of emotional and financial pain, shame, regret, trauma, anxiety and despair as my life savings was instantly drained.
These hackers are very smart and understand technology far better than we do. They delight in destroying lives and stealing dreams. It's a game to them! They will certainly troll this sight as it grows and attempt to further poach the unsuspecting. Please don't post personal information here nor follow a link from anyone pretending to "Help" you find your stolen assets.
It's my desire to share my story and be a resource for others hoping to pick up the pieces of their life and move forward. I have nothing to sell you. Let's use this platform to inspire and encourage others and help protect those who have yet to be tested. I would love to hear your story and what helped you heal.
