Guests will learn and practice the Language of the Fan. It is widely believed that in Victorian times fans were used – much like gloves or parasols – for relaying secret messages. A variety of teas, finger sandwiches and desserts will be served. Door prizes ($1 per chance).
This week’s #tuesdaystreasure is an 1840's handmade spinning wheel. Used by Mrs. Elizabeth Thomas. Dr. & Mrs. Thomas came to the Dakota Territory around 1870. Dr. Thomas was a shoe maker who also became a doctor of opthalmology...so he had locals covered "from head to toe"!
John Blair Smith Todd, cousin to Abraham Lincoln's wife Mary, resigned from the U.S. Army today in 1856 to become a trader in present-day #SouthDakota. He died in #Yankton in 1872.
