😈 Here's a candid look at the job market hellscape:🧵
@piggy21350280@robhennefer@RosserJobs An employer has no business trying to gauge a potential employee's personal financial situation, period. This is a business deal. Purchasing services in exchange for salary and benefits. No way does this provide any evidence of money management. It is an assumption.
@piggy21350280@robhennefer@RosserJobs That shouldn't matter to the employer. They are not hiring for the employee's personal financial info. The only criteria is having the skills to do the job, and being a team player, nothing else matters. If a hiring manager is looking at other criteria, then just avoid.
BREAKING NEWS
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2024 #NobelPrize in Physics to John J. Hopfield and Geoffrey E. Hinton “for foundational discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning with artificial neural networks.”
@robhennefer@RosserJobs Exactly! If a hiring manager is judging someone's decision making and farsightedness based on how much their counter offer is, then the hiring manager needs to learn how to interview/evaluate candidates. Better to avoid such managers.
@deedydas @aaditkamat The definition of merit is not brilliance or smartness, it would entail the whole profile including evidence of subject matter expertise (part of privilege of getting college education), participation in related extra curricular activities (also part of privilege).
@NeuroEllen@jdpereira Were the blogs publicly available or only available to the lab members? If public, this would count as a public disclosure and affect patent eligibility.
Conference governing bodies should take a stance that they will only host conferences in countries where the visa situation for ALL foreign attendees would be dealt with on time. Scientific researchers are literally the best and brightest, and yet no respite for them.
@FromPhDtoLife In my view so far, someone who has not gone through the rigors of a PhD does not appreciate the skills that a PhD brings in. Work experience is valued way more than a PhD even though a PhD entails project management at some of the very high levels. People just do not see it.
@sriramk If you are talking from a policy perspective in regard to US Congress, then there aren't many that are working on this. Currently, EB-1 for Indians is also under a backlog of at least 5-6 years, which is slated to increase if things persist.
