(Ignoring that Heisei Godzilla is my favorite era)
Heisei was very special not only in being a linear story, but it heavily featured Godzilla as both an enemy and reluctant (temporary) ally.
The concepts were crazy, Godzilla was cool and powerful, his rogues gallery was iconic.
This is what I mean!!!
70 years of Godzilla with three eras of classic designs they can use.
Showa, Heisei, and Millennium
Yet they INSIST using Heisei and ONLY Heisei.
The only recent collabs that differed (aside from Reiwa series and the Monsterverse) was "vs Marvel" and Ants.
@KaijuReaper I feel something that also has to be taken into consideration is that there's good odds that the writers/artists of the current stories might be fans or have grown up with Heisei.
So we'll probably see a change the further we go on with crossovers as the talent changes.
@KaijuReaper The Godzilla DLC in GigaBash also features a few showa and millenium monsters
@KaijuReaper That definitely sucks when non-Godzillas only have Heisei
Though I wouldn't say it's the *only* rep, since a lot of western games that crossover have the Monsterverse designs
@KaijuReaper If I absolutely had to pick a different rep, I'd probably pick Minus Goji since he's got all the design strengths of Heisei, but modernized.
@KaijuReaper I'd also argue he embodies modern and showa era design sense, while also having all his iconic powers beyond just atomic breath.
Millenium designs have spikes different than Showa, and showa is usually very silly looking. I get why they'd wanna pick the best middle ground
Partially related, but Evolved Godzilla from A New Empire was a beautiful homage to Millennium Godzilla.
Yet a bunch of people clowned on this design.
