@NealGardner_ 2/2 The team you see now is the result of years of institutional corruption and absence of governance. They tried to build a team w/ average players from abroad without a world class Coach. The whole thing has to be rebuilt from the ground up. I can write about this for hours 😄
@NealGardner_ 1/2 In a nutshell - Football is at the heart of every day discussions. Post 2010 revolution, the country struggled financially. It's dependent on foreign loans. Football got deprioritized, it all went downhill from there. Massive corruption in the federation made it even harder.
This is looking more and more like Florentino was pissed that he didn't have a single player in the Spanish team.
I'm betting on the failure of their transfer window like last year.
Madrid's transfers are basically a wishlist of Florentino with no long terms sporting plans.
Just three weeks before the World Cup matches are due to start, FIFA has gone into a panic as they realise the immigration crackdowns in the USA means they can't fill stadiums, even at drastically reduced prices. I mean, surely they aren't that stupid that they didn't see this coming?
