Media Lab Prof. @raskarmit talks to @mitsloan about the future of agentic AI, and how to avoid centralization and corporate control. “Right now, we are in the mainframe era of AI,” he says, but “we are moving to the PC era of AI, and that changes everything.” https://t.co/Hdo2wBc04H
🗓️Don't miss "Body Alchemy" at @PioneerWorks_ in Brooklyn on 7/19, feat @hughherr & @anarajcevic from the Yang Center for Bionics. This event will explore how breakthroughs in bionics, neural interfaces, and embodied design are redefining the future of the human body. RSVP ⬇️
In a paper being presented at #IUI2026, Media Lab Prof. @patpat_mit and graduate researchers Sheer Karny and Anthony Baez introduce “neural transparency,” a tool that lets users see how a chatbot may respond before they ever engage in a conversation with it.
In MIT News, Prof. Pataranutaporn explains what they found during a user study, why the stakes are so high, and what genuinely transparent AI might look like in the future.

On Sunday, July 19, Media Lab Prof. Hugh Herr and Dr. @anarajcevic, a research scientist in the Biomechatronics group, join Prof. @JannaLevin for “Body Alchemy” at @pioneerworks_. Together, they’ll explore what happens when the human brain is wired to operate an entirely different anatomy — looking past what our bodies were born to do and toward the alchemy of what we might choose to become. This in-person event is free with registration; seating is limited.

Co-founded by Media Lab Prof. @fadeladib, Cartesian uses technology based on Prof. Adib’s research to help retail stores track inventory, down to its exact location — whether it’s on a shelf or in a box in the back storage room. Cartesian’s platform could also improve indoor location tracking for manufacturers, logistics operators, and robotics companies.

Researchers in the Media Lab’s @cdecoders group have developed a portable ultrasound system that generates high-resolution, 3D images of breast tissue. The system, which requires no expertise to operate, could enable earlier detection of breast cancer, and also allow for long-term monitoring following treatment — either in a doctor’s office or at home.

Developed by researchers in the @cccatmit, Gadfly is an AI tool that acts as a critical instigator, asking questions that invite critical reflections, rather than offering easy answers or telling users what they want to hear.
Watch: At a recent @tedtalks event, Dr. @randi_c1 — a Media Lab alum who is now research lead at @DayofAI_USA and an incoming research professor at @cmuhcii — considers how play can help kids develop an appropriately skeptical approach to using AI tools.
