The @JACCJournals collaboration w/ OHDSI opens incredible potential for the community to both publish global #RWE and educate on best practices in observational research. Thank you to @hmkyale, @SengChanYou1, Yuan Lu, @nicolepratt_ & @suchard_group on a great #OHDSI2024 panel!
We always encourage our ECRs to increase their impact through sharing their research in multiple mediums. A big shout-out to MI-CRE ECR Dr Craig Cumming for his @healthmeanswhat podcast and this week's interview with @Ria_Hopkins from @NDARCNEWS & MI-CRE https://t.co/rekgkYJeTu
Just published! This review highlights the limited data on the safety of alcohol pharmacotherapies in pregnancy. Balancing untreated AUDs against the medication-related risks is key to supporting the pregnant individual & developing child. @UWAresearch

Fantastic to see the global reach of MI-CRE, with several of our E/MCRs teaching at ACPE in Tokyo this year. Well done to @michaelfalster, @Juliana_OCosta and Ben Daniels for leading sessions this year and representing @MedIntelCRE .
Great start to #ACPE2024 Tokyo with the education session on Database Pharmacoepidemiology. Thanks to all my fellow presenters! @MedIntelCRE@Juliana_OCosta
We must prioritise early access to these medicines for Australians with type 2 diabetes to protect their hearts and kidneys and save lives. https://t.co/QrW6z3dRBN 4/4
These are called ‘add-on’ therapies and are usually taken with metformin, the first-line treatment for T2DM. There are 2 types: SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 RA. Starting these add-on therapies early is crucial to maximise heart and kidney benefits for people with type 2 DM. 2/4
MI-CRE researchers studied Australians aged 40+ who began metformin in 2018 - 2020. They found 2/3 of patients did not receive any add-on therapy within 2 yrs of starting metformin. 3/4
Over 1M Australians are living with T2DM, but it is heart and kidney disease that are the major causes of death and sickness. There are diabetes medicines available that can also protect their hearts and kidneys, and potentially save lives, but many are missing out. 🧵1/4
Medications to treat alcohol use disorders are severely underutilised in Australia.
Thrilled to share my first published #PhD paper! @UWAresearch

Congratulations @EbonyQuintrell on your first PhD paper being published. Ebony also won the People's Choice award at our recent MI-CRE Symposium for her presentation on this work. A rising star in MI-CRE!
Chuffed to see @EbonyQuintrell first PhD paper available online.
The paper highlights huge time lags between the onset of #alcohol dependence and treatment, as well as a huge underutilisation of medications.
Congrats EQ!

And congratulations to another one of our ECRs @DrMasakoAraki whose poster was selected as a Spotlight Poster for the Drug Utilisation Study section of the conference.
Fresh on the heals of our highly successful #MICRE2024 Symposium, several of our ECRs flew off to Berlin for the 40th ISPE Conference in Berlin to present their work. Well done team!
Our Director @SalPearson was thrilled to be a part of this great new conference and discussed the value of using real-world evidence in health technology assessment.
