Dr. King believed that doing the right thing is not about timing or convenience, it's about character.
That belief is reflected every day in the men and women of our Armed Forces, who choose service, responsibility, and selflessness in defense of something greater than themselves.
As Dr. King wisely said, โThe time is always right to do what is right.โ It is a simple reminder that leadership, honor, and integrity start with everyday choices.
Today, we reflect on his legacy and celebrate the shared commitment to doing what is right for our communities, our country, and future generations.
Today, and every day, we celebrate the Veterans who have worn the uniform with pride.
Your service, strength, and dedication continue to inspire us. ๐บ๐ธ

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against Viet Cong forces, Sergeant OโMalley led his squad in an assault on a heavily fortified enemy position.
Under intense small-arms fire, he charged across an open rice paddy and jumped into an enemy trench, killing eight Viet Cong with rifle fire and grenades. He then led his squad to aid a nearby Marine unit suffering heavy casualties, reloaded under fire, and continued to engage the enemy. Though wounded three times, he personally assisted in evacuating several Marines and reorganized his squad to return to the fight. When ordered to evacuate, Sergeant OโMalley refused until all his wounded men had boarded helicopters, providing covering fire from an exposed position.
Only after ensuring their safety did he allow himself to be evacuated. His extraordinary bravery, leadership, and devotion to his fellow Marines inspired all who witnessed his actions and reflected great credit upon the Marine Corps and the U.S. Naval Service.
