When I was 13 in a private Christian school I was, of course, surrounded by Arminians. I was struggling to understand how they could read their bibles and come to such silly conclusions. I felt like they must have never read their bibles at all.

I was talking to my dad about it and he broke some news to me. He said, “Summer, you do know that arminians can be saved, right? Just because they’re wrong about this doesn’t mean they can’t be christians.”

I cried.

But anyway, thanks Dad. Turns out that I needed that lesson.

My wife raised five kids. Two are married now.

This week, she wrote out her job description for the new season. Mother of married children. I have not stopped thinking about it.

Her list:

Love their spouses like my own children.

Pray for their marriages. Daily.

Encourage them when it gets hard. It gets hard.

Never assume authority in their home. I have none there.

Never speak a negative word about their spouse. To them or to anybody.

Support their decisions as a couple without feeling entitled to an opinion.

Model what I want them to become. Character. Forgiveness. Growth.

And the last one. The one that costs the most:

Accept that I now hold a less important place in my children's lives. And accept it with grace.

Twenty-four years married. She learned the hardest job a mother ever gets is the demotion.

Nobody teaches this.

She just did.

I already agreed with Calvinism before I knew what Calvinism was—because I believed the Bible. I saw that:

• Man is so depraved, he cannot pull himself out of it; he doesn’t even seek God (Rom. 3:10-12). God must act first (Titus 3:3-5). By His grace, God must seek him out to save him (Luke 19:10).
• God has chosen whom He will save, for His good pleasure (Eph. 1:4-6).
• Jesus died for His sheep (John 10:14-16).
• All whom the Father has chosen will come to the Son (John 6:37, 44). They come through hearing and responding to the word of Christ (Rom. 10:17).
• And those the Father gives to Him, He will never lose (John 10:28-29).

The doctrines of grace are but a summary of what the Bible says about the sovereignty of God in salvation. Praise God!

When you are aware of the immensity of your sin and the infinite holiness of God, eternal hell makes sense.

When you don't think your sin is all that bad, then you look at hell as God being a monster. You'll leave the faith or make God in your own image.

You also diminish the greatness of God's grace in the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus died for sinners so they would not suffer in hell forever. Repent and believe in Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins.

I’m not a feminist ultimately because being a female image bearer means being the glory of man - a far better standard to hold myself and others to than any feminist philosophy could ever dream up.

I’m not a feminist because I love the Creator we are made to reflect; therefore I must despise whatever mars our imaging of Him.

Earlier today, after suffering an emergency medical incident, he entered into his rest and the immediate presence of the Savior whom he loved, trusted, and served since he was converted as a college student. Please pray for Bridget, their children, and grandchildren.

Pray for love to abound (Phil. 1:9).
Pray when you suffer (James 5:13).
Pray to not be tempted (Matt 6:13).
Pray for Christ to return (Rev 22:20).
Pray God's will be done (Mark 14:36).

Jesus died as an atoning sacrifice to rescue people from the eternal wrath of God that we all deserve for our sins. All who believe in Jesus will be saved and have eternal life.

That's why the gospel is such good news.
