I was part of a team from Top-Up Pharmacy that conducted free blood pressure and blood sugar checks for market women in Kasoa and some of the values we saw were very alarming. Our mothers were walking around with very high blood pressure and blood sugar levels that some had to be referred to the hospital immediately.

Let’s encourage our mothers to embrace regular check ups, please.

@NEBASARK Other blood tests done on the donor can include ( Full Blood count / Hb , Hb Electrophoresis/ Genotype… note that there may be additions or modifications based on the type of blood product needed .

@NEBASARK You don’t pay for the blood . You actually pay for processing ( this process entails screening for Hepatitis B , Hepatitis C , VDRL/SYPHILLIS, HIVI&II… ) amongst other tests done on the donor to confirm safety of the blood before it’s been administered

Diagnostic and Laboratory services definitely should run for 24 hrs. More people should be employed to run these services.
Teaching hospitals should not run general OPDs not to talk of providing 24 hour services. Waste of time and resources.
