After escaping that heated hotel political debate yesterday in Nandi,

Today I visited an unfamiliar area in Uasin Gishu County.

While travelling, I met vijana aged 17 to 35 most being Gen Zs playing football on a small hilly ground.

Some had no shoes and used an old ragged ball that could hardly bounce.

They were in a friendly game with about 25 players, a few spectators, and one mzee as referee.

During the break, I joined them and offered two new footballs

I had with me I hadn't planned to, but their poor condition made me do it.

They praised me like their king, but I quickly calmed them down because I don't want attention.

When I asked about the 2027 presidential election questions

They were optimistic about getting a good President and didn't favour President Ruto.

But sasa they soon changed tune, arguing there was no hope

From other leaders, especially from the United opposition.

They liked the Linda Mwananchi movement but saw no future because it isn't registered party.

In the end, they concluded that if communities from Mt Kenya to Ukambani to Kisii

Push for their own leaders, nothing should stop them from doing the same.

I left that place asking myself hakuna way we can really change this country.

I honestly don't know.

I just heard that maitiest profit is building a church at a cost of KSh 2 billion, roughly US$15 million. Imagine what that kind of capital could do if it were invested in people instead of concrete. Schools. Scholarships. Vocational training. Research centres. Small business financing. The kind of investments that lift families out of poverty, expand opportunity, and create generations of productive citizens.

Ironically, that would also strengthen the church itself. Educated and economically secure congregants are far more capable of supporting the institutions they believe in than people trapped in perpetual hardship.

Instead, the priority is building what is claimed will be the grandest church building ever. It is a familiar pattern in Kenya: extraction from every direction. The taxpayer is squeezed by the state, the consumer by monopolies, and the faithful by institutions that too often equate questioning with a lack of faith. When people are taught that asking where billions are going might jeopardize their place in heaven, accountability becomes the first casualty. No society has ever preached its way out of poverty while investing more in monuments than in human potential.

The Hypocrisy of Selective Outrage: Why Kenya’s Internet Bullies Suddenly Found a Conscience

The way humanity has rushed to rally around Stivo Simple Boy after Andrew Kibe trolled him for his deformity, while the same bandwagon of losers viciously bullies me for obesity, perfectly exposes the repulsive double standards we tolerate as a society.

Just because I refuse to pander to mainstream degenerates, beg for sympathy, or join low-life cliques for cheap camaraderie and validation, I become fair game for every social media bully.

But when it suits their narrative, they suddenly discover morality. Screw all of you scumbags. Your duplicity and hypocrisy created the likes of Andrew Kibe.

Don’t pretend to walk the moral high ground now that a slum-dweller offers you easy, cheap points.

Stivo’s condition bothers me too. But unlike Kibe doing podcast interviews while drunk, I choose to address the real issue: malnutrition.

This is the direct result of collapsed food access in our slums and the deliberate destruction of local agriculture in a country that exports cash crops while importing basic staples from Uganda and Tanzania.

We subsidize, zero-rate, and grant tax exemptions to activities that benefit foreigners for glossy IMF headlines and statistics, while slapping taxes, barriers, extortionate power costs, and market restrictions on anything that could secure our own nutritional sovereignty.

Markets like Githurai and Gikomba - vital hubs for affordable local produce and small trade - are being systematically demolished by British-backed war criminal and mass murderer William Ruto, to force everyone into foreign-owned supermarkets and malls.

Indigenous vibandas and restaurants are being harassed out of existence by rogue county askaris to clear space for restaurant chains backed by private equity.

This is not development. It is engineered hunger.

I refuse to join the woishe merchants manufacturing temporary sympathy while ignoring structural failures. Soon enough, they’ll open a paybill for Stivo and move on. That’s their pattern.

If we stopped allowing ourselves to be gaslit by every sleazy headline and actually used our brains beyond the 8-4-4 indoctrination, we might start making serious electoral choices that address root causes instead of reacting emotionally to every choreographed drama.

Podcasts exist precisely to platform these alternative, deeper analyses. The hopeless TikTok police brigade should find something better to do with their time.

Focus on the system destroying lives through hunger, not just the visible symptoms it creates.
