We hold local TV and Radio stations accountable to the public interest & took away an Entercom license for killing a woman in a stunt. Founded by Sue Wilson.
In the wake of SCOTUS' decision in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, it is time for legislators to craft common sense laws to ensure broadcasters serve the Public Interest - as they are already required to do. It's time for specificity.
Here's how:

VICTORY for the public! After intense public outcry, Allen Media has reversed its decision to fire local TV weathercasters.
Score a big win for the public interest in local news!

@BrendanCarrFCC When will speech be freed on our radio airwaves? For decades, huge corporations have restricted even a simple Right to Respond on radio. Had Sandy Hook parents had that right, they wouldn't have had to hire lawyers to counter Alex Jones' defamatory lies.
#FreeSpeechOnRadio!
@AskMe_idareyou@BillKristol I'm told Fox News is shown exclusively on military bases. Who is responsible for what media is shown? It has to come down to one person.
@DanielleLangWa Thanks for talking about radio. Did you know Sean Hannity gets 4 million viewers on his best day on FOX, but 16 million listeners every day on radio?
No surprise that Faux promotes Republicans.
Now will someone perform a similar study on Talk Radio? Perhaps not for a year, but even a week would be telling.
@mujikins27@BrendanCarrFCC A simple "Right to Respond" would help, especially on radio.
Had the Sandy Hook parents had the right to go on Alex Jones' stations to plead their truthful case that they are legitimate parents of slain children, they wouldn't have had to sue.
Free speech, not expensive lawsuits.
Broadcast media have had the privilege of using a scarce and valuable public resource—our airwaves. In turn, they are required by law to operate in the public interest.
When the transition is complete, the FCC will enforce this public interest obligation.
In just 3 weeks, I have more followers on the Sky without even trying than I've gained on this platform in more than a dozen years working hard at it.
Is it the algorithm? Or something else?
@fred_guttenberg Fred, you're right about Radio (not just AM, now FM also.)
But make no mistake, we have not lost the battle. We have never waged a battle because Democrats weren't interested in media at all.
Now is the time to build the coalition we need.
Here's the plan:

This is personally hard for me. I worked for CBS the day the Reagan Admin killed the Fairness Doctrine. I witnessed the vicious radio rhetoric after the 1996 Telcom Act. I could see this coming and shouted about it since 1998 on CSpan, NPR, McClatchy, Huffington Post and more. 1/
Trump’s “ grab them by the pussy” and Nick Fuentes “your body, my choice” comments reach’s school boys by social media. Today at my granddaughter’s school, , boys formed a gauntlet outside the girls bathroom to shout misogynistic taunts as girls tried to get to the bathroom
@VWPickard It's time for legislation. Rules may come, rules may go, but laws are difficult to change.
That's okay. We're good at difficult. Let's do this thing!
.@PhillyInquirer is a for-profit, owned by a nonprofit. Has ads, subscriptions & donations. Breaks even. And models how to cover local elections. 👇
All qualified candidates for US Senate and US House should also take note. These Equal Opportunity rules apply to you as well.
Now... how to define Talk Radio. If it's "news", these rules do not apply. If it's not news they do.
What do YOU think?
REMINDER re: NBC / SNL candidate appearances...
The federal Equal Time rule requires broadcast stations to afford *all legally qualified candidates* rights to use airtime / facilities.
RFK Jr, Jill Stein, Hung Cao, and all other qualified campaigns should take note.
