In case studies of investigations utilizing AI, Teodora Curcic shared: “AI can remove repetitive time-consuming tasks, even in small local newsrooms, which cannot afford paying data analysts.”
On ethics and AI in journalism, Eugenia Stamboliev from says: “AI saves your time, but you spend the saved time by checking what AI has composed….There is a difference between content and quality work!”
And Pavel Kasík from Seznam zpravy follows: “Even if AI is not replacing us now, you are giving it information to replace you in the future.
Look at what you do, cut it into small boxes and now decide what you can do yourself and what you can outsource and give to AI.”
In the session on updating media and journalistic education, Borislav Vukojević believes that “In the future, you won’t have a right to complain because you helped the system (AI) to work without you.”
Continuing with the discussion on leading a niche media in the age of AI, one of the panelists, Krzysztof Chojnowski says: “Automate and collaborate. One-man show will no longer exist.”
Damir Agovic: “The mission is to enhance, not replace journalism…..
Trying to enhance and support, but not replace. Editorial support might be more important just because of the ease of overproducing.”
Asya Metodieva: “We do two things: 1. Training journalists about AI in organisations to boost their effectivity.
2. Try to motivate people in news organisations to have better cooperation and communication between operational level and decision-makers”
Asya Metodieva:
“I must say that in Europe journalists are curious to explore AI. But there is not much when it comes to environmental considerations.”
