I am very excited and extremely humbled to share I’ve been featured in the Chicago History Museum in the exhibition focused on American Muslims. Proud to have made it with the title of being one of the Youngest Muslim Electeds in the US! @ChicagoMuseum
“When you’re on your own like that, as a convert, it's a struggle. But I never felt alone like I didn’t have a whole community to help me even though I was the only Muslim in my family. So when it was Ramadan and I was fasting, the sisters who I converted with became my family.”
"... He gave me a little grin, and then he walked away…. It was a confirmation for me that I was on the right path.”
- Naadherah Muhammad
For more oral histories, visit us at the Chicago History Museum soon! Exhibit opening on October 21st, 2019!!
"I read my Quran, went to sleep, and I had a dream of Prophet Muhummad. He came to me in a dream, he didn’t say anything… he was just there. And I knew it was him. I had never read any of his physical attributes or anything like that, I just knew that it was him..."
Naadherah Muhammad, one of our remarkable interviewees, recounted a monumental moment on her journey to Islam.
"That night I took my shahadah, went home and cleaned my space, took down all these pictures, you know. I was on it. I was like hardcore, I'm gonna do this..."
Happy October! 🍂

It's astonishing to realize that although we're all Muslims and we all live in Chicago, we are each so different but so similar at the same time.
Each individual around us has a unique story and it's amazing to get the chance to hear so many.
Say hello to your Teen Historians (plus Andre ofc).
Throughout the course of Summer 2019 we've interviewed a wide variety of individuals from all over Chicago. Although some stories were long and others short, each and every one was eye-opening.
American Medina: Stories of Muslim Chicago is an exhibit that shares the experiences of Muslims throughout greater Chicago. Come visit on our grand opening: October 21st, 2019
