Sad day in Calgary, as we report the legendary radio voice of the Flames, Peter Maher, has passed away.
A man of immense class, integrity and heart, Maher was a mentor to many and a comforting voice for Flames fans for 32 years.
It was impossible not to love the man.
There is a reason we named the Good Guy Award after him.
As good a guy as there was.
He lit up the room when he showed up this spring, as he always did, to present Blake Coleman with the award.
Gutting day.

I am shocked and saddened by Peter’s passing.

I texted with Peter yesterday and told him how cool it was to hear some of his historic calls on @QRcalgary again. He was so happy to hear that @NHLFlames games would still be broadcast on the radio.

The biggest honour of my life was being given the opportunity to follow in Peter’s footsteps, huge shoes that not I, nor anyone was ever going to be able to fill.

Not only was Peter a great broadcaster - a Hall of Famer who was THE voice of the Flames for generations of fans, he was also a great person.

My deepest condolences to Peter’s family, friends and fans.

Rest In Peace, my friend 🖤❤️

The Atlanta Flames debuted in 1972, they never had a 1st overall pick. The team then moved to Calgary, Alberta, in 1980.

The Calgary Flames, in 46 years, have never once had a 1st overall, or even a top 3 pick.

That’s 54 years in total. Spare me with your team is unluckier.
